Great posts and advice guys. I've been shooting muzzleloaders for about 10 years now and have not loaded a dry ball yet. I know its only a matter of time though!  ;)  ;D

There are people who have done that, and people that will. Shoot ball guns long enough and it WILL happen to you.

I'm fairly new to muzzle loading and I've done it twice with the round ball. The second time I did it was with a very tight patch and ball. Had to make sure I got the screw all the way into the ball before attempting to remove the ball, then I had to tap on the bottom of the ramrod handle with a mallet to remove the ball.

if you're shootin' a side lock what has worked for me(twice in the last month. once for a bore mop/copper scouring pad that came apart and once for the aforementioned dryball) is go to the auto parts store and buy a 1/4x28 grease fittin' and an extra tube of grease, finger screw into nipple hole and pump'er out. wastes grease and takes a while but ya don't hafta worry about rust ;D. found this bit of advice over on the muzzleloading forum. have a good'en neighbors, bubba.
