Another shorty question??

If Shorties are so popular here.......why don't they make them.  It's gotta cost less to make a 16.5 in barrel than a 22.  Almost any stock they have will fit about any barrel.....why not more options.  It's almost like they don't want to sell guns.  You should be able to buy a youth or a shorty in any caliber, stocked the way you want it.  It aint rocket science, we do it here all the time.  Why don't they offer the .357 Maxi anymore.  Why not the .445, 454, 460, etc.  They're all on barrels they're already making.......As old Florida Cracker Rocky would say.....et up with the Yankee Dumbass.

I think it's because there just wouldn't be a large enough demand for them.

They are popular here because this is where the tinkerers are, and who else fits their barrels unless you are a regular on this site?

Looking at how the price of used barrels has shot up lately I'm thinking my next project is going to be a smoothbore 20 gauge cut down with a youth stock, for a knock around gun for my Jeep, and woods carry when I'm just out walking about.

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

They are offering shorter barrels, the Talo Trappers all have 18¾" barrels. All barrel blanks start out at 36", if they made 16½" barrels, they could make two barrels from each blank!! Hint...hint...hint  H&R!!  ;D

Tim, they'll never take the hint.  It's the Old Rocky Quote again.  What I don't understand, is that all these barrels, stock, forends, frames, etc. are just parts.  why can't they build what you want?  Where's the Custom Shop? etc., etc. etc.

I know for a fact I'm not dealing with the barrel program at any time....at least not in this lifetime.

you  have a great  idea

now  all  you need to do is hire a gunsmith
buy 500  recievers
800 assorted stocks and forarms
50 to 100 barrel blanks  in all the calibers each....custom chamber them  as ordered

move  and operate out of florida under  my licence

its all about the money and inventory management

i have  wondered  why they don't do something  like the smith and wesson performance center
or  some sort of  in house custom shop

does  quick  have the clout to influence ''TALO''??
is that what some of those  ''survey'' threads were about?

How well do your .357 Maxis balance if you're holding them with one hand by the receiver? The 45 Colt BC carbine balances perfect with the 20" barrel so I'm wondering what the optimum barrel length is for a .357 to get that kind of balance. I want to put together a .357 Max for my girlfriend for next hunting season.

My 16.5 inch balances perfectly loaded and with 9 rounds in the butstock cartridge holder.  They're three each .38, mags and maxis.  She swings ;D ;D

 Girlfriend? Fess up you really want one. You are trying to justify it, I do it with my boy all the time  ;D
   I think they should make Tim an offer and start a custom shop. He could sit in the big chair and proof test new designs. Stimplylu32 could be the finish design guy. Atlaw could be the trigger test man for new oversized offering.

Amen. I would think if there was a clearinghouse for demand, like the mfgs do on brass, that some jobber or wholesaler could just log in requests until a trigger was met and then order a batch. I would be happy to put 10-20% down on a list of 3 or 4 calibers , whatever hit first. Or if the company would just ship barrel blanks with the chamber uncut to some gunsmith that we could all do business with, they already bore about every caliber one would need. We could just pay a premium for the chamber cut. Oh well, hope springs eternal. Happy new year.

Well, naturally I'd have to take it to the range for her, sight it in, break in the barrel with at least 500 rounds, clean it, develop some hunting loads by trying at least 25 different powder/bullet combinations, develop some 38 Special cheap plinking loads for her to practice with by trying at least 25 different powder/bullet combinations to find which is most accurate and then after all that I can take her to the range and let her practice with it. See, I'm doing it all for her  ;D

She does actually have a .410 Pardner that she shoots, I only borrow it once in a while :). Here she is her first time shooting it a little over a year ago:

If the 18 3/4" Talo barrels are from 36" blanks what do they do with the 17 1/4" section they cut off?  Maybe they have a stockpile of shorty barrels they are not telling us about?  ::)
