I sent them an e-mail and asked why. I also mentioned if I was not getting a discount I was not getting any older. The Midway USA discount was the only reason I was having birthdays.

I am awaiting a call from a Christmas Gift Purchaser to conference call Midway USA about their purchase and what Midway shipped to me.  When I called Midway myself after Christmas, without the invoice in hand, Midway would not send me a pre-paid mailing label to ship the product back to them for correction of the order.

I was shipped a 240V-EUR lead smelting pot.  The enclosed gift order form says 220V and nowhere does Midway's advertising indicate that this 220V pot is in reality a 240V pot specifically plugged for use in Europe (or possibly Canada).  

The plug end is round two-prong European, which will not fit a US socket.  Cutting off and modifying the plug will void the warranty.  As shipped, it is useless to me and NOT what the purchaser intended, which could have been avoided PRIOR to the purchase if the advertisement was so worded.

I am only seeking a pre-paid mail authorization, which like most retailers, they can e-mail to me.  I intend to return the 240V EUROPEAN model and EXCHANGE it for the 110V AMERICAN model, paying any additional retail price myself (since I believe the 220V was cheaper than the 110V in early December).  My research indicates that Midway does not sell a 220V American model smelting pot.

I don't want to have to ship it back to Midway at a cost to me.  After all, it was a gift.  Wringing the Purchaser's arm for shipping cost back to Midway seems inappropriate too in light of their advertisement, or lack of information therein.

And, I didn't get a Discount Authorization either.



LATE NOTE:  Midway USA does not provide RMA's (Return Merchandise Authorizations).  They allegedly reimburse shipping costs back to the purchaser (i.e. if bought on credit card, then credited back to that card).  I have shipped the furnace back to Midway, asked for an exchange and provided authorization for credit/charges against my card.  I will report their progress when I know something.]

Why not just stop messing around with Midway and buy from GBO Sponsor Midsouth and you'll not have to wait for a discount coupon their price is just lower to begin with and they charge you only what it costs them to ship it not some inflated packing and handling charge.

Every company will have missteps along the way.
Midsouth folks are great folks to deal with when that time comes.
GB is right about the prices being lower to begin with.

I gave up on midway long ago. Too quirky. Mid south is much better.

Gifts not purchased from preferred Retailers remain problematic.  The bulk of my purchases are from MidSouth if that is any consolation.  Still, there are specials that stimulate spur of the moment purchases, and no one carries it all.

I do buy from Midsouth (Just purchased almost $200 in Varmint Nightmare bullets) but MidwayUSA carries AR parts that Midsouth does not carry. And they do have some outstanding specials at times.
The last one was S&B .380 ammo for $11 a box. Brass alone was listed at $18 a hundred.

Having never set foot in Canada, I have no idea.  Enlighten me.  For portability, I think I will have greater flexibility with the 110V furnace.  Not as many garages with 220V outlets.

Having used their site (painfully) for years now, I'd wager it's probably a database error.   I've come to the conclusion that MidwayUSA.com is done by a web developer who has a great feel for aesthetics (design and layout are great - though that has been slipping a bit lately), but absolutely TERRIBLE coding skills.  The number of error messages and timeouts I get accessing the site borders on insane - as well as stupid behavior like either the top or bottom "results" drop-down box not working, making you use the other.  If they got a good coder and moved over to a Linux/Apache/PostgreSQL setup I'd wager they'd have many fewer problems.

I don’t believe Midway will issue a credit to your card for your cost to ship the unit. How do they know for sure what you paid for return shipping? Midway has a contract with the shipping companies and deeply discounted rates. If they issue an RMA with a prepaid shipping label via email it makes this so much simpler and less expensive to them. What they told you makes no sense to me unless they are providing you with their "Shipper Account" number with UPS, FedEx ect. I can'e comprehend they would disclose thier shipper account numbers.

I stopped using Midway about a year ago. They messed up with me too many times.

We shall see and I will report how I am treated on this gift order that didn't exactly go the way it was intended.  They should be able to read the USPO mail "stamp" that is affixed to the package for $13.99 to ship it back to them.  If they wanted a reduced rate for return shipping, they coulda, shoulda, woulda sent an RMA, which they tell me they do not do.

I have never had a problem with Midway (other than backordered .444 bullets) or Midsouth.

Worse comes to worse landowner here is my cure. Cut that silly plug off and get a 220 plug and be done with it. I have been using my polisher for around 8 years now with no problems

Check the Hertz. US and CA use 60hz and over the pond uses 50hz. But with a heating coil it might be rated between 50-60.

Roger that guys.  I didn't cut the 240V-EUR plug off as the Midway Rep said they would exchange the 240V-EUR furnace for the 110V-USA version, and that someone ON THEIR END had made a mistake.  

I agree and I believe I will PREFER the 110V cord so that I may have a warranty and greater flexibility, taking the furnace to other smelter's houses, where 240/220V outlets could be problematic.

The "Hz thing" (50 in EUR vs. 60 in USA) for a heating element would not have been a problem.  For a long running motor it would have been, but a furnace has no motor.

I have bought most of my reloading stuff from Mid south. I went to place an order the other day for a lubsizing kit I had for gotten on my previous order.
  They wanted to charge me three dollars for not spending enough money! So I surfed around and bought it from Titan reloading. No three dollar charge and it was slightly cheaper and they sent it in the mail for half what Mid south would have charged for shipping with UPS.

I went to midsouths web and tried to order a free catalog. They REQUIRED my  phone #. I ws disgusted because we do NOT give it out. I finally found an email addy for them. I aked for a catalog and told them we do not give out our phone # and until I placed an order they did not need it. I haven't heard anything back, that was several days ago.  I have been using a euro spec polisher on brass for several years with no ill effect. Actually got the polisher for 10 dollars cause the supplier would not exchange it.
