35 BR

Does anyone have any info on the 35 caliber version of the Bench Rest Remington?  Velocity with 180 grainers?  Could 2500 fps be possible in a 24 in barrel?  I suspect not but any info would be appreciated, I can't find much on the web.  Thanks.

I have been interested in that round for a while. To me it looks like the BRs stop at 30BR. Neck sizing up from 7mm may be an issue. There is a good piece on 25 WSSM necked up to 35, and it requires a few annealings in the middle of the stepped process in order to get there without cracks or splits, and to give good case life. Also, the WSSM case is much thicker than a BR case, so the 30BR limit might be because of not being able to get there reliably with the thinner brass.

Now, the WSSM cases share almost the identical design parameters that the BRs have. Here is a press release on the 358 WSSM Dies...

It may be possible to see 2400fps with 180s. I get 2600fps with 190 cast paper patched bullets in my 358, basically the same thing just bigger. (I can NOT do that with jacketed bullets. too much pressure.)  I can cram 48gr. of 3031 in mine using a drop tube, you are going to be in the neighborhood of 30gr. of something like 4198 or Re7. Just have to build one and try it.

If you look at the 30 BR the get around 3000fps with 112/125gr bullets out of 1/18,1/17 twist barrel using appr 34gr powder.  The old 35 Rem had more case capacity and if you look at Hodgdon manual for the 35 Rem they could get 2200fps with 39gr of powder.  You might do better with the 35 Rem using a 1/10 twist 35 cal barrel Krieger makes one also need brass.  Well good luck

The 35 Rem loaded to higher than SAAMI pressures in a suitable platform will push 180g 2450fps and 200gr 2400fps, my H&R does 2450fps with the 180gr SSP.

Does anyone have any info on the 35 caliber version of the Bench Rest Remington?

Contact AJ Brown down in Bloomfield, he's been playing with it since the PCR regulation.

As I recall his velocities were on par with those of the 358 Gremlin & 357 Herrett-BFG.
