First Sight in with the handi
« on: January 05, 2011, 12:36:57 PM »
well finally got to go out and finalize my sight in, kinda disapointed with the grouping but not really all that bad for a $200 gun and with a little work I'm sure I can pull it down.  the best that I could get was 3-4 MOA, but I haven't done anything to the gun,  I didn't even lap the barrel.  I'm still new to the shooting game and didn't know that you had to lap a new barrel and all this other stuff, but after what I have seen I think I will just shoot it in.   Also not to sure how good the scope is,  I had it on a smokepole before I mounted it on the .22 that I traded for this gun, and I never liked it on the M/L.  It ended up being that trying to move the POI that last half inch in one direction would end up putting me 4in. over, and that is only going 1 or 2 clicks, with a 1/4in MOA per click.  I think I'm gonna go and do the rubber washer trick here sometime and go back out and see if that helps any.

If you used the Tula ammo you've mentioned before, I wouldn't be concerned, I wouldn't even waste my time with it until you have it broke in,  I'd get some decent, inexpensive sporting ammo and try again, be sure to read the Handi Basics 101 before you shoot again also, if you haven't already.

I removed your question about the shotgun barrel since you asked the same question in the shotgun forum, besides being double posted, it would be off topic here.  ;)

Check and make sure the scope rail is tight, if your telling us you don't like or trust the scope. Put new glass on it.

I agree.

I agree with all the above.  Make sure the rail is tight, put new glass on it, throw the "O" ring on it, and get better ammo.

as much as I would love to put a new scope on it, its just something that I cannot afford atm, so I will just stick with it, it will work fine for break in.  Also that grouping was with remington UMC 55grn MC, still haven't shot the tulammo yet as I have been working nights and usually by the time I get up its getting dark.  hopefully I can do some shooting this weekend before school starts back up.

Well, youve already told us, and yourself, that scope is unreliable from previous experience. You will never get good groups until you have decent glass (and that does NOT mean expensive, just decent). Shop around and watch the classifieds here, one will turn up that you can afford.
Then break that scope against a pole and throw it away so you wont ever be tempted to use it again  :).

I have had decent results with the Wally World scopes.  Tasco, Bushnell, and CenterPoint.  They are all made in China and basically the same level of quality.  Not the greatest, but I understand being on a budget.  My experience with them has been fine on low recoil firearms.  The big guns will eat a cheap scope for lunch.
