« on: January 05, 2011, 01:35:49 PM »
hello;

recoil of 444 marlin is an issue for someone.  has anyone reload their 444 marlin to the performance of a 44 magnum, both in cast bullets and jacket bullets???  if so, reload data????  thanks for any input.

if you want a fun load that will still kill any deer or black bear out there with a well placed shot try 10 grians of unique with a 250 cast.

A tight shooting load for my .444m rifle was 14grs of Unique with a 240gr XTP bullet. This equals .44mag performance. I have owned the Marlin1894 in .44 and much more prefer the loaded down .444m to the 1894 in .44   Make sure you try your .444m with a GOOD recoil pad, a hot load in a .444 with a good pad is just a good shove.

You need the 10th edition of Handloaders Digest.  "444 Recipe for Survival" He makes a very valid case for the 444 being the perfect one gun for everything.

to reduce the feel of the recoil, I installed a limbsaver butt pad. I shoot my 444 at the range and can shoot 50 to 75 shots with out it hurt my 69 year old shoulders.

I have 2 444 Marlins  1-Marlin 336  load-51.5 IMR 3031 265 gr.hornady flat point, 1" at 100 yds.  2-NEF single shot  load is 52 gr. IMR3031  265 gr.Hornady FTX  1" at 100 yds.  Why would you want 44 mag performance out of a fine cal. like that.  If you want 44 mag performance buy a handgun not a rifle.

Why buy a 44? If ya can get the same out of a 444 what's the difference except for one gun? Nice idea with a light load. I'm thinking of getting one myself and should go good with cast bullets and 14 gr. unique. The case should last 30 or 40 rounds.

Why limit yourself?  The cartridge is flexible, so make the most of it.
