I just got my ordered barrels in after a 7 week wait. Sent in a 45-70 receiver and ordered a 45-70, a 44mag, and 2 357mag barrels, all in 18 3/4" length.
The 45-70 and 44mag barrels were priced at $96.00 each ,plus $25.00 each for fitting. However, and I was shocked at this, the 357 barrels were priced at $135.00 each, plus $25.00 each
for fitting.
I sent Remington an email asking why the big price difference. Their reply was"The 357 has lower demand and is produced in smaller numbers. The 357 barrel also has sights (as does the 44 mag barrel) but again this is in production numbers. The 45-70 does not have sights." From Danny.
The 4 barrels I got back ALL have sights, and ALL are D & T for scope rails.
Seems CS has failed us again.
Just an FYI.
Thanks, Robert

I guess I have come to conclude that trusting a CSR is a crap shoot anyway. Call five times and go with the two answers that most closely match doesn't give much confidence.
Sights cost so that really does account for a higher price. Sounds like a nice bunch of barrels, hope they all work well!
BTW, when you cost average them you're at $140ish/@, or do you have S&H too?

Gcrank1, they only charged me one shipping fee of $19.00, even though their were two boxes. Lucky for me, I guess.

you guys are so lucky

is there any way a Canadian can get one of these in Canada?   Shipping across the border is not an option due to cost.

Welcome nanuk-O-dah-Nort! Unfortunately no on accessory barrels, they'd only be available there as a complete firearm if H&R exports them, the accessory barrel program is available only in the US, you might contact the Canadian repair source and see if they have any recommendations tho, maybe they can help.  ;)

Several members here have bought and sold second hand barrels across the border tho, one just recently, so buying a used barrel in the H&R Classifieds might be an option for you, barrel fitting is covered in the FAQs and Help sticky which is mandatory reading for anyone with any interest in H&R single shots.

Getting ready to send in for a 7.62x39 and an 18.75" 45/70. Anyone heard recently if they have any or not?

It does no good calling.

I called H&R last week and they said the 35 whelen 22" barrel not available.  I have a handi 45/70 and want to get the 35 whelen barel.  are pretty sure the 35 whelen barrel avail?

FWIW:  My best friend works at Remington in Ilion; I had a .35 Whelen barrel fitted there and he told me (he was told by the old guy that came over from the Mass. plant) that "you got the very last .35 Whelen barrel we had"  While I don't remember exactly how long ago that was, I'm thinking it was only a year ago.

Well, that would be old news cuz members here have had 35 Whelen barrels fitted in the last six months, Papa Jack in March for one, they had about three dozen 35 Whelen barrels in stock as of December 22, 2010. Considering the Whelen is a big seller in Mississippi, I seriously doubt they'll ever be out of em for long if they ever are.

I just received an accessory barrel in  35 Whelen last month (20 July). I checked with Brian56 prior to sending in my frame and he gave no indication of them being short on supply.  A quick turnaround time of 14 days!

I dunno, try it and see what happens, I know some members didn't send stock sets to Gardner to avoid damage in fitting and shipping and it worked, but I dunno if Ilion will, they might charge for installing and removing the stock for test firing it, maybe Brian can answer that question.

Tim

I didn't see an answer posted, I don't need a stock set, but I would sure like to send just the receiver.

I got the go ahead from Brian, just the receiver is okay.
WOW!!
$5.12 to ship the receiver in a small flat rate box.  No extra labor cost, and a whole lot less packing!!
$156 and change total and a 2 week turn around for a factory fitted barrel.
...sent it on a Tuesday and got it back 2 weeks and 1 day later!!

Do they keep the barrels at the Ilion, NY plant?  If so, can you take the gun there to have them fit the barrel?  I only live an hour away from the plant.

I have been a Graybeard for several years but haven't visited this board.  I have a Handi Rifle in 243 and was looking to get a 308 barrel for it.  I guess they don't have them available?

I really want a 300 Blackout but I can't find out where to get one?

You'd have to check on availability of the 308 Win barrels with H&R, the 300BLK is not available as an accessory barrel, only as a complete firearm thru AAC distributors.

What Dinny said, Brian is always the man to contact for current availability and pricing, Madison CS doesn't always have the correct info, although they're working on it and they may well be out of them, afterall, this list is over a year old although it has been updated a couple times since, but not lately.

I have changed my mind and have decided to get a 44 magnum barrel.  So what is the procedure?  Do I have to call and tell them I am sending my action in? Do I remove the butt stock?
