I may have mis-spoken.  My Handi Rifle is a New England Arms.  If I read the H&R web site correctly they won't fit a barrel to it.  My serial number is NJ2189***.

Am I correct in my assumption?

They'll fit 357 and 44 mag barrels to SB2 frames(SB1 too) made 1987 and on, the only other rifle barrels they'll fit are the original chambering that it was built with, build year code list can be found in the FAQs sticky.

The Pistoleer - Your gun was manufactured in 1995, H&R will fit a .357 or .44Mag barrel on it.  Just get the form from the H&R website, and send it in.

Just get the form from the H&R website, and send it in.

That won't work anymore, read the new instructions on their website, he needs a return authorization too.

Now I have another problem.  My computer (which is on it's last legs and refuses to down load anything in Adobe) won't let me down load the form. I'll have to call them and have them send me one. ::)

The saga continues.  I called this morning and they said mine was one of the 3 reciever serial numbers they won't put new barrels on :(  it's too old??? It is a NJ number so I guess if I want a 44 mag handi I'll have to buy a new one :'( .

Pete, I think you've been told wrong, it's true they won't fit other rifle barrels to it, but unless they've changed their policy, they will fit the 357 and 44 mags to your frame, I just asked Brian that very question 2 months ago, 1987 and on were good to go at that time, so give em another call and get a return authorization. It wouldn't hurt to PM Brian about it too for his advice.  ;)

Tim, I did as you suggested and Brian got right back to me.  He told me my information was wrong and a 44 barrel could be fitted to my frame, but that they were currently out of the 22' 44 magnum barrels ut did have the Talo (18.75") barrels in stock.

I told him that the problem was after I hung up with the service dept. I went to gun Broker where I had some 44 Handi Rifles on my watch list and I put a bid in on one.  Currently I am the high bidder so I have to wait for the auction ends to see if I get it since I don't want to rifles in the same caliber.  The up side is that if I get it I'll be ablt to order other barrels without any hassel. ;)

FYI. The gun you are bidding on is likely an SB1 frame which can only be fit with shotgun barrels and the .357 and .44 mag.

Even if it is I can't withdraw the bid.  Since it is new in the box with a synthetic stock I wonder why they would continue to build them on the SB1 frame???

One thing I don't understand is that my NEF Handi is a .243 and has a SB-2 frame.  So why won't they fit say a 308 barrel? ???

I contacted the seller of the rifle I am bidding on and he told me it is a SB-2 frame.  So that is resolves any question.

Ask him what the serial number prefix is, CAC = SB1, if it has the new style checkered syn stock and is NIB, it's an SB1 frame, the 357 and 44 mags have all come on SB1 frames since 2008, barrels are marked SB2 which is very misleading.

H&R won't fit high pressure barrels to any frames made prior to 2000 which is when Marlin bought H&R/NEF.

Yep, check the Serial Number prefix like Tim said. All the new .44 Mags are on SB1 frames. The barrel marked SB2 is very misleading.I wish all the centerfire cartridges came on SB2 frames.

Does anyone know if H&R currently have 7.62x39 barrels in stock?  Their web site doesn't have it listed in their accessory barrels page.

You'd have to call and ask Lisa Walters, (866)776-9292, make sure to ask for the part number listed in the sticky.  ;)

Tim,

Just a FYI, Ms. Lisa Walters, advised me that if the particular caliber barrel is not on the barrel accessory website page, they are not allowed to sell the barrels as part of the accessory barrel program.

This has been confirmed with Brian, if the barrel isn't listed on the H&R accessory barrel web page, it's only available for repair/replacement.  :(
