Puzzled by new trade?

 I traded for a NEF Handi that has the youth black synthetic stock set, came with a 22LR Versa Pack barrel. The reciever has the NW prefix & the VP barrel has the 3 digits that match the serial of the reciever. It also came with a 22 Hornet barrel that seems to fits the reciever well, but is not a 3 digit match.
 I did look at the stickey/Faq but could not answer my question. Which reciever do I have and is the Hornet barrel compatable?

The Hornet barrel has never been factory offered on an SB1 frame, although it has been offered on older(pre-'87) H&R Inc Topper cast iron frames and may work fine on an SB1 frame as long as the right primers are used. I've had severely cratered primers on one shotgun frame and lightly cratered primers on another even using Lil'gun in the hornet which operates at less pressure than other hornet powders, some of those that use other powders have reported pierced primers, so beware.

The Versa Pack came on an SB1 frame, H&R would not fit any other barrels to it, this is discussed at length in the H&R Rimfire forum sticky IIRC.

Doesnt the Versa-Pack use the smaller CF firing pin?, and the barrel breech is offset to match it for impact?
If so, and the fit is good on the Hornet barrel, it should be OK.

I fired it with the Hornet barrel, no problem, it marked the primer dead center. I just picked up another Handi yesterday with a 3 barrel set. The Hornet barrel is not a good fit on this reciever very loose. So I guess I will either use it with the Versa pack reciever or sell it.

If its loose you can easily shim it per the FAQs.
