Taurus Tracker in 22LR
« on: January 07, 2011, 06:16:58 AM »
I was wondering if anyone has one of these handguns and can give me the pros and cons. I use to have a Taurus 94 in 22LR and got rid of it do to the terrible trigger pull. So now I am looking at the tracker as I like the ribber grips that Taurus uses on this model. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I got a really good deal on a used one so I bought it. It shoots OK but did not function nearly as smooth as my Smith. Gave it to my sister and she LOVES it. I really didn't have any problems with it except the rough trigger pull.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Thanks for the information. I might just have to get another Smith. I use to have an airweight 317 but I didn't care for it. I regret selling my Arminius as it was accurate and built like a tank. It seems that Taurus has trouble making a good trigger on their 22's.

I had the same problem on a 94; if you can find one used for the right price and you like the trigger, or can do the trigger work yourself it should be OK. I would hate to have to pay for a trigger job on top of purchase price for a Taurus.

I bought a used tracker .22 about two years ago. It was sticky when trying to rotate the cylinder.  I sent it to taurus and  it has the best Sa and Da trigger that I have ever used on any handgun.  The  heavy 6.5 barrel is fun at the range but a load in the field.

Bought a Taurus '94' that looks a lot like a .22 tracker a couple of years ago, to use as a trainer for some family members. Model number has never appeared anywhere, but it's a pretty good package, seems bigger frame than most 94.

Anyhow, got it for $329 in stainless, worst DA trigger I've ever found on any Revolver, ever, and 60 years of shooting I've seen some poor ones, but the SA pull was nice maybe just a tad mushy.

Did a little research and found out that in .22 revolvers Taurus has taken the attitude that with so much faulty .22 ammo on the market, they beefed up the springs for a harder hammer fall, shows mostly in the DA pull.

Theory is/was that DA shooting is close and needs to be super reliable first accurate second, and that if accuracy matters, anyone would use SA anyhow.

Always meant to go in and 'fix' it but somehow that never happened.

Kept the gun and now 5-6000 rounds later the DA pull is still heavy but even and smooth, quite usable. And that's the only trigger job it's had (I'm guessing a number of internals are of work hardening steel).

The SA pull has done nothing but get better, very crisp.

Very well pleased with my 'mystery' Taurus 94.

As always JMHO, YMMV

Regards,
:)

I have one of these revolvers and it is a very fine shooting gun.  The hammer spring was a bit stiff so I cut a couple of coils from it and this made it a lot nicer.  I also took a coil of two off the trigger return spring and this lightened the SA and DA pulls considerably but it still fires ammo with ease.  I like the gun personally.
