To early for me to be out. Don't know what the price is today.  Yesterday the morning news said to expect a big jump in price effective this morning.

and unbelievably we are still subsidizing the big oil companies (you know the guys that made trillions in profits last year).

with our tax dollars to the tune of 40 billion a year. Where is the logic here.

I read a newspaper article today that said that gas will probably go up at least another 32 cents before the price levels off. I don't believe it. I think it'll keep climbing until it reaches beyond the moon and halfway to the sun.

3.09 would be a bargain. On a brighter side my silver is over 35 an ounce. On the darker side, the parasites have devalued the dollar. AMERICA IS DOOMED. Dried beans, bleach, bullets and faith are the only things that will save you. Shoot straight and have no mercy on your enemy.

and again still scratching my head ,
Put on the table last week was a proposal not to continue the 40 billion dollars a year That tax payers pay in subsidies to big oil and it was struck down in DC , Why ?

I thought they were looking for ways to cut spending? Where's the logic here? ..seems like a no brainer. Unless Big oil lobbyists have bought and paid for politicians to keep the subsidies alive. Apparently they are not really serious about cutting spending in DC. Makes no sense to keep these subsidies flowing to the most profitable companies in the world.
anyone smell quid pro quo kickback!!

House Republicans voted yesterday to protect corporate welfare for big oil companies while cutting to the bone programs average Americans depend on. While the U.S. House of Representatives was working on a stopgap funding bill to avert a government shutdown, House Democrats offered a motion that would have taken away tax subsidies from the five largest oil companies, saving tens of billions of taxpayer dollars. The motion was defeated with every Republican voting against it.

Two weeks ago a similar vote that would have saved $53 billion in taxpayer funds, taking it away from the biggest oil companies, was also defeated basically along party lines.

The former CEO of Shell Oil, John Hoffmeister, recently said, "Big Oil doesn't need subsidies in the face of sustained high oil prices." (so why the vote to keep them alive)The largest oil companies, between 2005 and 2009, have made a combined 485 billion dollars in profits. That's almost half a Trillion dollars.

House Republicans said yes to keep the subsidies going to the big companies making huge profits.

Who wants to reduce the deficit? Who wants to save taxpayer dollars?
Think about that the next time you fill up your car. You're paying a lot more than just the price at the pump.

Looks like the Obama administration has figured out what it's publicly disclosed energy stratagy may be or at least what part of it may be: Release the strategic oil reserves. ::) ::)

Why would a release of some of the energy reserves be idiotic in your opinion? if that in fact is what is being contemplated. I haven't kept up with this part of the news. But if I recall correctly , Bush Senior tapped the reserves in '91 and Bush Junior in '05.

Yes previous presidents have as well. Releasing the reserves is not a strategy. It’s simply a one-time shot of oil into the US market. The Obama admin has no real energy strategy or a back stop to combat a real shortage in oil supply. There has not been any reduction in the world’s oil supply. The price is being driven up by the "speculation" that there may be a supply issue in the future due to the ME unrest. Airlines, ocean shipping lines and transportation companies of all kind are driving the price up because they are scared of the lack of real sustainable supply strategy. They are negotiating with the oil companies to lock in long term price contracts. Since the oil companies are scared due to the lack of their hands tied by this administration and lack of strategy, they are going to ask for top dollar now. They fear a supply shortage is possible in the future which will result in lost sales/lower revenue.

We are not drilling on our own soil at that is ridiculous. There is no strategy to tap into our own resources. We are not building nuke plants, refineries or upgrading our electrical grid. No strategy.

Regarding the strategic reserves, there is no shortage of fuel, there is a seasonal glut of it. The price increases are based on expected future prices because of fears of middle east instability. $3.60

Agree. As i said in post 114, there is no supply issue. However, if the US had a real energy strategy that reduced our need for imported oil, that would rest much of the fears and speculation, thus reducing the price.

a note... there are 20 nuc plants licensing apps on the books in the US.  Several have been approved and if all goes well the plants will be on-line by 2020.

I would much rather see an emphsis on more energy effecient construction, a major emphasis on solar and wind power.  Nuke power just makes too much waste that never goes away.

We'll be reliant on oil for transportation for many, many years.  We don't HAVE to be reliant on oil for power production at all.
