Stay out of Canada. Figure to pay one(1) $ more per US gal average.

fact vs fiction -

As of October 2011

There is now more oil and gas drilling occurring under the Obama administration than under the administrations of George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and the second half of the Reagan administration.

“The number of rigs drilling for oil in the United States this week reached a record high in at least 24 years as producers scrambled to tap resources in unconventional oil fields in North Dakota, Texas and other states, data from an oil services firm showed on Friday.
“U.S. oil rigs rose to 1,080, the highest number on Baker Hughes’ data, which goes back to 1987. The oil-directed rig count this week is 55.4 percent higher than a year ago, when 695 rigs were operating.”
Obama: Over the last three years, we’ve opened millions of new acres for oil and gas exploration. …  Right now, American oil production is the highest that it’s been in eight years.  That’s right – eight years.  Not only that – last year, we relied less on foreign oil than in any of the past 16 years.

Factcheck.org -

All that is true — as far as it goes.
According to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, 37 million offshore acres were offered in the Gulf of Mexico for oil and gas exploration and production. The current 2011 average for U.S. petroleum production (through October 2011) is 7,782 thousand barrels per day, actually the highest in more than a decade — since the average of 8,011 thousand barrels per day in 1998, according to figures from the Energy Information Administration. And EIA estimates that the current 11-month average for U.S. dependence on foreign oil for 2011 is 45.4 percent. That’s the lowest since 44.5 percent in 1995.
But,  as we’ve reported, economists say the chief reason for the declining oil imports is reduced consumption, brought on by the recent economic recession.
And — what the president also didn’t mention — the annual average price of a gallon of gasoline was $3.521 in 2011 — the highest in history. It’s small comfort to motorists that prices spiked even higher for a brief period under George W. Bush.

The increased oil drilling is in spite of efforts by "the regime", not because of it.  Obama stated emphatically to industry advisors that his administration was going bio (pond scum) and wasn't interested in more drilling.  They made fun of "drill baby drill" and "drill here drill now" and every other oil drilling encouragement.  So let's not be giving credit where credit is not due.

And for crying out loud, it's not George Bush's fault.

Notice the report said more drilling but it is in UNCONVENTIONAL areas.  Why, because the government will not let them drill in conventional areas on formally government leased land.  (no more leases).  They still haven't returned to drilling in the Gulf even when a federal court judge said the Obama administration couldn't stop them any more.  They haven't approved any new permits because of "environmental issues".

The price of gas is now $3.54 per gallon here in southwest Washington State.  In about 2 weeks, it has dropped about 50 cents a gallon.  Wow, at this rate it should be free before the end of summer.

When the price drops in summer, during the vacation season, that means the economy is in really bad shape.

I wonder if obammy will take credit for the bad economy or blame it on Bush. Pretty sure he will take credit for the lower gas prices, tho.

Fuel prices are dropping becasue of the worseing global economic and job status and outlook. As consumption/demand for fuel drops, so do the prices. Planes are not flying, trucks and ships are not moving since factory and buying volumes are down.

So yes, obama can take credit for dropping fuel prices.....

I didn't stop to fill up because I still have 3/4 of a tank but when I passed the station I usually buy gas it was $2.979 yesterday and at another station I passed it was $2.999. Slightly under $3 seems common around here now.

I have a nagging suspicion that there is a little more to this than one might suspect.  It is getting close to election time and it seems to me that it is a bit more than coincidental that in the past, the price of gasoline has dropped around election time--only to increase big time after the elections are over with.  I'm not ready to believe that "big oil" is partial to either party, but I think they might be averse to big changes.  Experience shows them that they can get away with very high prices with the crowd that is in power, but if there was a lot of unrest with the high prices, it's possible that this issue might bring in enough new deidicated politicians that might stir things up and mess with their cash flow.

Just watch for the present glut of gasoline to dry up after the elections--lots of refinery problems and so on.

It was $ 0.259 when I started driving.  During a gas war, which was common, the price was $ 0.179.

When I 'borrowed' my late dad's car in the evening we would drive up to the pump and say "Give me $2 worth." and hand him the cash.  He would pump it for you as well and check the oil.

We are still stuck in the mid 3$ here... I saw one station at $3.44 the other day...  I was in southern Jersy and western PA last week end and it was low 3$ range.

The hi price in CT is at least partially because of a large fuel tax above many other states...

I do think the election has influenced the price to help the incumbent. Even up here it has dropped some more but we are still at $ 4.62/US gal.

Probably because of the fire at the Richmond Refinery gas has gone from $4.09 on Sunday to $4.19 yesterday to $4.29 this evening here around Eureka, kaliforny. It'll probably go higher tomorrow!
