Accessory Barrel Question
«
on:
January 07, 2011, 07:49:37 AM »
Considering getting an accessory barrel for my 243 Ultra. I would like something in 7mm-08 but it is not available in the Ultra version. Will the regular 7mm-08 barrel fit the Ultra frame and will the Ultra fore-end fit?
Thanks,,,

As far as I know all barrels will fit except the 10ga and the 12ga slug barrels.
The forearms should interchange.
I know I have never had a problem with any frame/barrel combo yet and the same with the stocks.
They all interchange.
If I am wrong, someone will straighten me out.

What LT said!
I've swapped lots of H&R forends and barrels around on the almost 50 H&Rs I own, the only ones that require much modification are for some shotgun barrels. Barrels channels in all rifle forends are the same, the only variance will be from different years of mfr as they haven't all been made in the same place, all current wood forends are made in the wood production facility in Ilion NY.

So the outside barrel diameter of the 243 bull barrel would be the same as the 7mm-08?
Thanks,,,

Yes, closed enough where the forend fits that it doesn't matter.

Based on your knowledge of the H&R product, which barrel would require less fine tuning for accuracy from Ilion, the 7mm-08 or the 25-06?
Thanks,,,,

The 25-06, lots of reports that it shoots excellent with factory ammo as well as handloads, mine shoots Remington, Hornady and Federal factory loads equally well out of the box, first two rounds touching, then the third round opening the group to about an inch or slight bigger, a little forend work would solve that problem, but one round is all I need for deer, so I've never touched it. The 7mm-08 not so much.
