Prodigal son....
« on: January 07, 2011, 12:48:39 PM »
Well, I up and sold all 3 of my Handi's awhile back, a stainless Hornet, a stainless 30-30 and a blue 223...under duress.  I bought a CZ17HMR and while it is a nice...real nice rifle and superbly accurate...it hitched a ride today.  I miss my little crew of Handis.  I'm going to a show tomorrow and if I don't find one I can love, I'll go by Bud's and get something...anything.  Don't let this happen to you. :-[  You will regret it.  I think the Hornet was the worst...

I can assure you it was stainless, a hornet and that I am punished. :'(  I sold it to another fellow that I got hooked on them..he bought all three, in fact.  Lucky him.

I never sell anything Handi, unless I want something  better, just don't like it, or I want something that works better for me.....easier to load for, etc.  I sold guns when I was a lowly Seaman and needed cash, and it took me 40 years to find the models I liked and buy them back....never again.  The next time I sell will be when I'm too old to use them.  Even then, I'll keep my favorites around for nostalgia sake and visitors to shoot. I wonder if they'll allow you to carry a .45-70 into Valhalla?

I'm pretty sure that a .45-70 Handi is required for entry into Valhalla, don't cha' think!

I have seen the nickel plated Handi's in .22 Hornet but not a stainless one.
I only buy guns, I NEVER sell them.

You cannot go to Vahala or any other form of heaven unless you own a 45-70 handi.
The Great Father told me that, but didn't mention anything good about those who don't own a 45-70 handi. ;D

Well, I dunno...stainless or nickel?  I guess all the "stainless" receivers are nickel. You tell me....

Looks like a stainless barrel to me, I thought maybe it was a Handy Gun II  from the description before which was electroless nickel, made by H&R Inc before 1987, it was offered in Hornet. But after seeing the SB2 designation on the barrel, unless the barrel has a french gray coating, I'd say the barrel is stainless, but the frame is matte nickel finished, the only SS frames ever made are on the current production SS Ultra Varmint 45-70 and 444 Marlin.

Thanks for the pic, it is indeed the first SS Hornet barrel I've seen or read about, congrats on recovering it!  ;)

thanks Tim...& everyone.  I had a Handy Rifle II in a 30-30, one of the three I sold, which also was nickle/stainless. The same fellow bought all three.  We've traded on stuff before, but I still feel lucky he let me have the Hornet back.  I liked it best of the three...I think, the 30-30 was a good shooter too.  I took this one out and re-sighted the scope today, had to re-aquaint myself with the Handi trigger after being used to the CZ.  Anyway, it's home for good.  May not be too special to anyone else, but it's the first one I had and I'm going to hang on to it this time.  Reckon it needs a big brother?
