Got my first Handi a CR 45LC Today
« on: January 07, 2011, 04:31:07 PM »
Could not help my self.  Ordered in a CR 45LC from CDNN for $229.  The long range plan is to get the 45/70 Buffalo Classic Barrel put on under the accessory barrel program.  I can get that done for 180 including the sights.  Which will give me 2 rifles essentially for 20 -30 more than most places I have seen sell the Buffalo Classic alone.

Any thing I need to know about this little gem.  It does seem very stiff.  I have not even cleaned of what ever the factory put on the gun before shipping.

Don't even have any 45 Colt ammo yet.  A few weeks ago the shop where I picked up the Handi Rifle had cowboy loads at a decent price, but they sold out quick.  For the present I am only shooting blanks out of my RNVs  getting a horse ready for mounted shooting so have had no use for 45 colt ammo or a reason to load any.  Have the dies.

 Any particular type bullet and that CR 45LC seems to like really well.

Will probably shot this rifle mostly for Plainsman Matchs, but might use it to bust Javalina or even wild pigs in TX.

You'll probably find you need better sights on it.  I finally got mine down to shooting 6" high with the factory sights.  I ordered a sight from Skinner yesterday, we'll see how it works out when I get it on the gun and post results.  I haven't done too much accuracy tuning on mine yet but it shoots 300 gr XTP's pretty well.

WELCOME, You have chosen a nice one, IMHO one of the best looking handis going!!

 I love mine, only it is now a 454 Casull.  ::) ;)

Your gonna love it!!  Like peoples personalities all firearms are different, whats good in mine may be junk in yours. But that's the fun of it, you gotta shoot it to see its tastes!!  I will say mine shoots everything OK, preferred loads are right at 1" at 100 and one hole at 50. I shoot lite 1000fps 250gr lead "cowboy" loads to stompin' 2000fps 454's.

I just tried the williams WGRS on mine. Ill need to put on a front sight thats .650 to .700 tall to make it work. with the stock front sight and the rear at its lowest point it still shoots a couple inches high at 100 yds. now I just need a  new very sturdy front sight. DR

Here is a great rear sight for the 45BC to use with the front that comes on the gun

I bought a new one yesterday and its drilled and tapped for a scope. I didn't know they came that way.

ALL modern production H&R/NEF rifles are drilled and tapped for a scope rail whether they come with sights or not, welcome capo80.  ;)
