High Standard Sentinel Mark IV 22 Magnum
« on: January 08, 2011, 06:13:07 AM »
I was wondering if anyone owns one of these or has owned one in the past and can tell me anything about this model. I found one used in a gun store that has a 3 inch barrel that appears to be in really good condition. I think the gun store owner is asking around $400.00 which I think is too high but then again I could be wrong. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hello Tony

I had one quite a few years ago in 22 lr.  They are an OK quality revolver.  Mine was only so so accurate.  Unless you are a serious HS collector, I think $400 is to much.  For that price you can get a new Ruger S/A with 22lr and 22 mag cylinders.  If you want a D/A, for a little more $ you can find a S&W, which is a much nicer gun.

I agree with Larry, they are OK guns nothing fancy or special and not likely to be as accurate as a Ruger or S&W. For sure I'd not put anywhere near $400 into one. In 90% condition Blue Book says it's worth $165 if blue and $185 if nickel. Personally I doubt I'd put $150 into it.

Good luck finding one for $ 150.
Blue Book is only a guide, and many times does not reflect what certain pieces are bringing in the real world.
The High Standard is one of these.
There are 2 listed on the major auction site, as we speak.
one is a 3", and the other a 4" I believe.
The 3 " is at $ 300, nice condition, not cherry.
The 4' seems to be excellent, and it is already at $ 400
Pretty typical of the prices I have been seeing for the last year or two.
If you can find one for $ 150 grab it!!

Played with one 20ish years ago; it wasnt that accurate and had horrendous muzzle blast.
Ive had other H.S. 'cowboy' revolvers and there were just OK, but then they were a lot cheaper, and the Sentinal seemed to be made about the same. No comparison to the fine H.S. target auto-loaders.
You can get a better gun for $400.
