Yes, I could see people wanting that, low recoil 30 cal.

Most jackets bullets don't expand at subsonic speeds. There are a few which do, but they are expensive.

Sierra makes a 240 grain MatchKing. Berger makes some 230s.

I just mentioned this topic to my gunsmith. He just finished a contract of 50 rifles with barrel stubs in this caliber. They all went to some hunting outfit in TX. He assures me that the Handi rifles would sell like hotcakes.  ;)

Thanks, Dinny

We are going to promote this for AR15 hunting. There is 6.8 for longer range but this is 30 cal and lower cost in terms of ammo, reloading, and uses normal magazines and bolts. Anything a 30-30 is used for, this can do in an AR. Hunt with a 5 round mag, and use the same gun for plinking or self-defense with 30 round mags.

What's going to be the standard wight bullet for this round?  If it's all the loads are for 200+ grain bullets, I might as well just use my .44 mag.

I would be interested if it shot a 125 to 130 grain bullet but if it's throated for a 200+ grain bullet, the jump to rifling would be rather long for the lighter bullets.

Most full power ammo will be 110-125 grain.

Geezer, The concept on these sub-sonic high ballistic coefficient bullets is beyond what a heavy fat bullets will do, it is for more than the bullet weight indicates alone, though the momentum at a given velo would be the same if shooting at a ballistic pendulum or steel critters.

I was remembering the .300 Whisper that had a 220 grain bullet standard as I recall and I didn't seeing that being as useful.

I'm intrigued but I don't know if that's enough to get me to buy one...

Rob,
Has anyone shot this rifle yet? A range report would be very informative. ;)

What's the added advantage of this round over the 7.62x39?  The only I see is the possibility of shooting heavier bullets.

I've done a bit of testing along these lines with a 30-30 and the 200 gr lapua subsonic  does quite well.  Over a charge of 10.0 gr of trail boss in a 16" barreled 1:10 twist, it averages about 1045 fps and about 2 moa.   Although I've not tried it with a can, it's  pretty dadgum quiet without one.  Along the lines of a .22 LR.  Recent legislation in Louisiana has legalized hunting of nuisance animals with a supressor so I may pursue this further.  Would definitely like a 1:8 .308 barrel so I could shoot the 240 gr matchkings though.

Feeds in an AR15 from unmodified 5.56/223 mags with the same bolt/buffer.

Oh, so the head of the cartridge is the same as the 223 or 5.56 Nato. Not sure if it wouldn't be better to change the bolt in the AR rather than the cartridge case to get the same ballistics as the 7.62 x 39.  It seems that this would be more appealing to wildcatters than to the masses.  Personally, I would wrather convert to 7.62x39 and enjoy the abundance of cheap military surplus for target shooting and handload for hunting.

The .223 case head diameter leaves more material, and thus is stronger than a bolt head made for the 7.62x39.

7.62x39 bolts have a very thin web of steel supporting the locking lugs and are prone to failure.

This is a very cool cartridge for those that own both Handi's and AR's.

Reloadable brass at Midway is $24.99/100 for 300BLK and $23.99/50 for Win. 7.62x39 brass. And although the 7.62 x 39 can be made to run in an AR, it needs cartridge specific mags which reduces compatibility with other AR components. If a person's main criteria is cheap blasting ammo, might as well get an AK.  Spend $12 for a box of 300 BLK ammo, you at least get 20 pieces of reloadable brass to use or swap.

This is one of the most exciting new rounds to come down the pike in a while, at least in my opinion.  I concede that it's more of an AR/ bolt action cartridge than a Handi Rifle cartridge.  As I understand it, AAC's decision to do this is more or less a way of exposing more people to their new round.  Putting it in a Handi lets guys try it for less than the cost of a new AR upper.  Where it really shines is in a rifle with a couple of tax stamps.

If it were all about achieving 30-30 balistics in a break action, they'd be selling 30-30 break actions.

I'm definitely hot to try it out.  My big decision will be should I get one of these Handis, or should I jump in with both feet and really start spending some money.  I have home improvements that I'm doing now that must be done before the snow flies.  How much I can set aside for toys after that will be what determines how far I jump into Blackout land.

I want the Pennsylvania, California and Australia approved black gun; The Remington 7615p in 300 BLK.

Freedom Group: Hear me!

Maybe in stainless and black laminate, so it was less evil, of course, and loads of 5 and 10 round magazines, depending on whether a guy was deer hunting or hunting nuisance pigs en masse. Whatever. They could make it available in free states and countries too! And it would be Grand Pa's 32-20 pump gun for the new millennium! And keep the Handy around for load development, trainer, backup, everything.

Combo peep sight optical rail on both and of course, threaded.  If it was only available in black, I would be compelled to buy it anyway.
