Encore Barrel Extention
« on: December 16, 2003, 06:31:11 AM »
I am pretty much  gun dumb compared to a lot of you guys here but if ya don't ask how will ya know? I have heard there is a product out there some where that allows you to extend your 15" barrels to just past the 16" legal minimum for rifle. Anyone know what I am talking about? I had heard that it is either a muzzle tamer or something that has to be solderd on by gunsmith. Cost ? Where can I get ? Not really looking for expensive muzzle tamer as  I just want to make my .223 longer. Thanks for any help. Kurt

I have seen what you are looking at on e-bay.  Look there and you can get a picture and name.  Make sure it is perminatly attached or you could get busted.

It doesn't HAVE to be a brake... It can be as simple as a piece of tubing. Doesn't have to screw on. Doesn't have to be rifled. You could make one out of a piece of mild steel, that would slip over the end of the barrel, and have it soldered on. How big the inside hole is, would be up to you. The only reason this comes to mind, is that once I salvaged a too-short shotgun barrel (by a 1/2"!) by silver soldering on a piece of tubing. It weren't pretty, but the guy didn't have to buy a barrel for his old single shot! He went away happy.

I purchased a 44 mag barrel on ebay last year from a man that used a piece of cold rolled steel. He drilled the hole .500" and added around 2". I bought it for $120 and boy, it shoots good. Could have never got a carbine for that money and to top it off, it was done by a gun smith and the bluing is superior!! Yes, a piece of pipe is all you need but it must be permanently attached, no bolt on's!!!!!
