What Experiences have you had from Brownng service
« on: January 10, 2011, 11:37:46 AM »
What kind of luck have you had out of Browning Customer service? I recently sent in an A-Bolt .280 Rem that I have had flawless servicefrom for 23 years. The guy was personable enough on the front end. I explained what had happened and how old it was, and that a local gunsmith had checked and the gun had excessive heaspace issues.   He said send it in we'll see what wrong with it, it may be something we can fix under warranty.  almost 2 months later I get a letter wanting $320 to put it back in serviceable condition.  Easily half the price of a new one, and $38 less than what I  paid for it new.  When I called and talked to the customer service guy he basically told me the gun was too old to warranty and they would not warranty their gun against failure from "any load" factory or reload. saying that the headspace issue was caused by extreme pressure not the other way around. In the end I told him to send me my boat paddle back and the $320 I spend will sure as heck not be spent on another Browning or Winchester.  I guess my point in this rant is if they knew they werent going to cover a gun that old under warranty then I should never have sent it to them under that pretense in the first place and the local Smith could have fixed it already. thanks for letting me vent

When Browning first introduced their BBR rifle, I purchased a 25-06.  It was soon recalled for a trigger issue and they sent me a shipping carton and paid all the expenses to Utah and back.  Additionally, they made me a set of bases because nobody yet made bases for the BBR.  It is still and excellent rifle, just ugly and heavy.

I have a 280 A-Bolt that replaced the BBR.  Never a problem and it is among my most accurate rifles to this date.

To answer your question, my one service experience could not have been better, but the reason for the service was on their end and cleary within warranty.

I have heard other complaints about their service, and quality issues as well.  I traded my Buckmark pistol off a few months ago, it did work ok, but was not real solid mechanically.  I am looking at getting another .22 rimfire rifle, really like their lever action .22 concept, but am afraid of the risk of getting one.  Will look at other competitors instead.

My only experience with Brownings service center was fair and they did good work, but then I knew my 50 year old A5 was not under warnity. So I expected to pay for the repairs.  ;D
