I was checkin out this NEF 10g I've had in the closet for a while and I noticed the barrel is stamped "FULL" but it's not a screw in choak. I've looked it up and gotten all kinds of mixes results on what ammo you can and can't use.  I've read everywhere that as long as it's smooth bore which it is and the slug is rifled you can fire it through a full choak. So whats the go/nogo on the ammo?

I suggest you dont buy a lot of slugs to test right off. Maybe get just one box of 5 to 'feel' it out. After those you may decide that you really dont want to use it as a slug gun due to recoil. When you try it use an extra 'recoil bag' at your shoulder (if you like your shoulder as is).
I say this because my 5.25# 12ga. 'Buck' barrel with 1oz. 2 3/4" rifled slug loads (nothing fancy loads) is brutal @ some 42 ft.lb. of recoil. I also have a full choke bird barrel and it shoots slugs fine too, with just as much recoil.

I'll second the notion on you will be able to shoot the Foster style slugs from the full choke and it will be brutle but so will any other choke.To me any of the slug guns get your attention. Worst part is always trying to get it sighted in. After that it's only going to get shot once or twice usually in hunting situations. Kurt

Someone else told me not to send steel through a fixed full choak. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't shoot steel out of it. Midwayusa.com has good loads cheaperthandirt has a wider selection. Those slugs should be very mild. Turkey loads 2 1/4 oz is 983 grains 2 oz is 874 gr. That slug is 766 hrs. In our heavy 10 in probably like a 1 7/8 oz 12 Ga load. Steel loads make a different sound than turkey loads.  Steel shot makes my ears ring for a few hrs turkey loads dnt.

Aside form the ringing ears would steel T shot be dangerous to shoot through it?

I have seen steel "T" shot fired from a Remington 11-87 that had an aftermarket screw-in Turkey choke still in it from Spring turkey season.  my friend (really, not my screwup this time ;D)  shot a couple of geese with it and other than a bruised shoulder nothing bad happened.  I would think a fixed full choke would be a lot stronger, probably stronger than the fellow pulling the trigger.

Steel T is probally too big for the full choke.  BB and smaller will most likely function well.  Also hevi-shot is making a 10 ga classic doubles load now aswell.

Federal is the only slug manufacturer for the 10 gauge that I am currently aware of.  The slugs are 1 3/4 oz and quite slow if I remember.  3" 12 gauge turkey loads are worse.
