.750 Nitro Express

check out this Italian custom made double (side by side) 26.5 lb rifle chambered for the .750 Nitro Express.  Shoots a 1300 grain bullet at 2,200 fps.  I have found one load reference:  225 grains of Reloader #22 powder with the 1,300 grain jacketed  bullet (31 rounds per pound of powder). 

I'm a afraid the price of the double rifle is outside my budget.  I was contemplating a special made Encor barrel or re-barreling a Ruger No. 1, but I can't find a source of reloading components.   Can anyone help with a source of brass?  Bullets?  Bullet molds?  Loading Data?   I would like to make up some budget loads for plinking.  Can anyone recommend a reduced, cast bullet load?    Thanx.

Look around for the 12ga. FH. Similar effect and affordable. As for the double rifle, way too heavy and limited penetration. Not for me!

I mean the sectional density of a .750" bullet is very poor compared to a 458" or 475" bullet and it is not going to penetrate as deeply. If you got the SD of a .750" bullet as high as a .458", you'd have a bullet that weighs about 2500 grains. If you fired it at 2400 fps it would seriously damage you in any gun you could lift. That is what I mean by limited penetration. Tremendous wallop but not always deep enough to be reliable.

Good point - projectile performance on dangerous game is always linked to penetration. A bigger hole isn't always going to do it alone.

OK, you got me. I was pulling numbers out of the air, but still I for one ain't firing a 1300 grain bullet at 2400 fps out of anything that isn't crew served. My 12 bore double that fires 535grain balls at 1600 fps is plenty! (still won't penetrate like a 45 though, but it sure knocks deer flat.)

I will say this you would NOT wish to shoot that from a Ruger No 1.

I have used the H&H in both the 600 and 700 Nitro Express. And they are not a walk in the park lol. And sad to say I am not small by any means. Back when I fired them I was 250 LBS at 5 11 and playing High School foot ball as a Lyman lol. And they beat the snot out of me lol. But they were fun Then. :)

The 700 Nitro Express with factory ammo will generate between 150-160 Lbs of felt recoil. So hold on to your hat lol.  And besides that the ammo is VERY expensive.

 Now if you do re load you can tame it down a bunch but then you are defeating what the rifle is.

 As said there are many other fine calibers out there that will not beat you to death and work well.

The H&H Side by Side rifle runs between 18 and 20 pounds.
