71 days...
« on: January 13, 2011, 11:20:06 AM »
After more than 23 and 5 months... I have 71 days left until I can put on civilian clothes for good.  Sort of scary but exciting none the less.  I started my out-processing appointments today.  I'm sure the nerves will ratchet up a few points each week until I get there.  Can't wait to get it over with.

I'm AF...  thanks for all the good words guys but I wasn't really fishing for that.  It was written more out of a sense of relief and excitement.  I can't wait to get out but then again... I'm scared to get out.  Finding a job, moving (well that parts easy, done it plenty of times), all that stuff and then being one of the old, retired guys at the commissary... Not being part of the active duty family is sort of scary.  Anyone have any hints???

yeah....buy a good fishing rod.

think hard about where you move to when you get out.  like a fool, i came back to where i had left.  and now, life has me tied here for a while.  think hard about where you want to be, and look at things like state tax, etc.  some states dont tax at all, some do, some tax military pensions, some dont.  do some checking and think ahead a little.   that is all i got for ya.
oh, and thanks for your service.   (yeah, yeah, i know, but thanks anyway)

Sir,
Thank you for your service. As far as retirement, get a fishing pole, a handi rifle and just enjoy yourself. You will find brothers and sisters everywhere you go.

That's about the third comment on fishing and Handi's.  I don't own a Handi but I do have to USH's in 20 ga.  Might have to pick up a handi.  Would my Contenders get mad?  If we don't go back overseas, I plan to buy a nice Tracker or something like that to do some fishing out of.  Used to fish a lot in 'bama when I was stationed there.  Would like to get back into it.  I guess about 3-4 weeks of fishing every day would be a good break before starting a new job.  Hope I can swing it...
