I know that sounds like a long time

...........But, then i think back through the years, all the time collecting and reading books on artillery, stopping the car when a cannon is spotted, tinkering out in the workshop making small cannons and mortars, i could go on and on. I have to admit, it's been a very interesting and enjoyable hobby, and i hope to get more time to live and enjoy my hobby.

Well, it's just a day dream, and i have thought about buying one. Then again, i do have all those old furnace and foundry books, even books on making rifling jigs. There's no doubt in my mind that i could build a furnace and make my own rifling jig, it just wouldn't be as pretty as M&T's jig.

Well, i made some cannister rounds today, they ain't pretty, but they'll fit my 1" Dahlgren. For those that can "see", the enclosed picture shows a rare cut-away model, that i made just for you.If you look close, you can see the wood base, and 12 .440 lead balls.

Technically, I would be more inclined to classify that as grapeshot. Which is cool, grape is devastating!

You have inspired me! I think I'll make a couple stands of grape using twelve .490" round balls since I already have them, in addition to the 27-pellet 000 buckshot canister.

Edited for those with projectile weight concerns: The weight of 12 .490" balls is very close to that of a single 1.125" round ball. It's actually a few grains less.

The barrel weighs around 190 to 200lbs.

Twelve per stand is plenty. You don't need, or want, any more.

Weight-wise, twelve .440" balls in a 1" bore are the max. Any more than 12 would significantly exceed the weight of a solid shot.

Well, i set the date as February 5th 2011 for the Cancer Cannon Shoot, guess i should set the time. Right now i'm thinking 12 noon to 2pm, might strech it out to 3pm, just depends on who might show up. I plan to invite a few folks from work, haven't worked since September, but they say they are holding my job. Anyway......... I want to avoid the bull crap that happened during the last shoot that was planned for July 17th 2010. I told Cat Whisperer, to tell folks that i was setting my guns up at home, and if anybody wanted to come over and fire the Ballonabwehrkanone, or to stop by to see me, that's where i would be. That didn't work out too good, and nobody from this forum came by. So, if anybody from here wants to come by and shoot at the Cancer Cannon Shoot, send me a PM, and i will send you the directions.

I thought a bit rude when I first saw it.

I didn't say anything, becasue I also know friends some time tease and joke with each other in different ways.

So I read it like perhaps you and Tim might be working on some cannon for this shoot, and he wasn't ready yet. So you gave him a good natured joking tease, pushing him to get busy by saying if you don't a cannon by the 5th don't come over. It would have come across as teasing if you had included a smiley face.

On the other hand if Tim has no cannon, what you said was rude. The polite thing to say would have been, if you don't have a cannon by the 5th, come on over and shoot my gun.

Communication by keyboard can be a bit difficult, all the small nuances like facial expressions are missing. You and Tim my be laughing over this, but the rest of use were wondering.

Teasing and flip remarks are only fun when both parties are having fun.

Bringing it back on topic, I plan on going to this, just need to clean out the back of the truck
and am waiting on cannon to arrive.... I have a little bronze swivel gun on it's way just like
one I had years ago..... I just don't know if I will have time to sleeve it or not.

Like I told Lance this is a proactive attitude towards cancer, I want to send a few rounds down range for him

Those things killed my Mother In law and Father in law. They probably had something to so with my Moms passing also, even though she quit years before she died.
