I've had my exercise for the day!!! it started out that i just wanted to test fire the 1" Dahlgren with a cannister load.
The Dahlgren was loaded with 200g of FFg GOEX black powder, the cannister load is 12 .440 lead balls. The target was a cardboard box placed 25' in front of the Dahlgren. Now here is where the exercise comes into play, just as i'm ready to light the fuse, the 2 horses show up to see what i'm doing. So i have to walk to the barn and give the horses feed to keep them away from the target area. I figured i could walk back and fire the Dahlgren, before the horses finished their feed........WRONG.
Once again just before lighting the fuse, the horses showed up to let me know they ate their feed, and wanted to see what was going on. So i had to walk back to the barn and lock the horses up, then walk back to the target area. Anyway, the cannister round did o.k. at 25', the pattern was nothing to brag about, will probably set the targets 15' to 20' in front of the Dahlgren. Want to make sure the targets get the full effect. Here's a pic of todays test fire:
