Wait....

The ACLU is suing to ALLOW people to have guns???

Damn!  I guess I missed my chance to sell ice skates in hell since someone else must have that concession by now.

No, they are suing to allow Illegals to have conceiled carry. The Constitution was designed to protect AMERICANS.
The ACLU is being like Eric Holder when he wants to grant protection of Constitution to foreign Terrorists.

Actually, on the face of it, the ACLU is suing on behalf of a legal resident who is not a citizen to maintain his long standing CCW.  My question is why, after being here 30 years as a legal resident, has he not gone through the process of becoming a citizen.

But I do have to agree, that beyond the surface, it is likely that the ACLU is doing what you said.  However, since so many of them carry anyway, it really won't make any practical difference.

But, whoodathunk that the ACLU would actually sue to help someone carry a gun?  This may be a first.

Yeah, like the illegal invaders give a crap what the law is.  They don't even bother to get a drivers license, so what makes anyone think they care about a carry license.  This is just a convoluted strategy by the American Criminal Liberals Union to attack the concealed carry law.

Mr. Smith could always become a citizen. If he wants to retain his english citizenship he should expect to be denied some of our freedoms. If he doesn't like it here he can exercise his right to get out. The aclu should be tried under RICO laws.

I've done a bit of digging and per SCOTUS legal permanent resident aliens have the right to equal protection.  Under federal and most state laws, permanent legal residents are not prohibited from possessing firearms.  So their right to carry firearms for self-defense should also be recognized.  A thung attacking a law-abiding person doesn't care if the victim is a citizen or a "green card" holder.

What I find interesting, and somewhat disturbing, is that people who normally support the RKBA suddenly having fits when the ACLU decides to fight for legal residents to carry.  The guy had a CCW, and now it is being stripped from him.

Let's not confuse legal resident aliens with those here illegally.

Well, maybe because the ACLU doesn't really support all the rights amendments.   
Much of it is well founded in how the ACLU has historically treated Second Amendment cases.  From the ACLU site:

Legislated by judicial fiat I guess would be more accurate.

Check  the cases it has handled from a city council member being sued for saying "God bless you" when someone sneezed during a council meeting, to the cases it has taken to keep valedictorians from saying a prayer during their address, to getting voluntary group prayers by players on high school football teams banned, to having crosses removed from public property (while ignoring spirit posts in the same area), to suing schools for renting out space to Christian congregations who needed a temporary place to meet (somehow allowing a congregation to rent space violated the separation clause.), but not causing a stir about Dept. of Parks and Rec or schools to sponser shamanistic feng shui classes and yoga (which is at its roots a religious practice).  In CA, because of cases the ACLU has brought before courts, state employees can't even have a Christian themed daily desk calender, and in some state offices people have been told to not wear small crosses on necklaces.

Any organization that sues another, or someone should be liable for all court costs, and damages to the party sued if it proves that the party doing the suing is at the wrong. In other words, the ACLU should not be allowed to sue for political purposes, but rather actual wrong doing, and should the ACLU lose, it should pay all costs for both sides, and then be prosecuted.

No, but they get cases in front of sympathetic judges and so get legislation by judicial fiat.
