45-70 ballistics in Optima Elite
« on: January 16, 2011, 10:39:00 PM »
Does anyone have any ballistic data on Hornady's 325 gr. bullet out to 300 yds.   Where would I need to sight in to be able to keep the mid range trajectory within a 6-8 inch circle out to 300 yds.  I've read sometime back there was a formula to determine the trajectory of different calibers to 300 and 600 yds. so that the flight of the bullet would never be out of a 3 inch circle to 300 yds and a 6 inch circle to 600 yds.  Thanks.
Jerry

Hornady has external ballistics for the ammo on their website, you'll need the velocity if you're working with handloads, they have a calculator and data too.

I didn't look at the web link Tim gave you but I have a box of 45-70 325 Grain FTX LEVERevolution bullets sitting right in front of me.

Muzzle:  2050 Fps
100 Yards:  +3.0"
200 Yards:  -4.1"
300 Yards:  -27.8"

Not sure how much 300 yard shot you want to take with it but hope it helps.  Happy shooting!
