What's going on?

   Haven't heard a word on the deer take in NY this year. Nothing in the two local papers this year. Anyone heard anything yet?

I have heard the state had a record year this year but that's not official and I'm not even sure where it came from. I only took a big doe this year and my hunting partner also took a doe. Normally we each take a buck and a doe but I can't say we didn't see deer they were everywhere.

The latest outdoor news claims that this year beat 2009 but is still unofficial,it must have come from southern tier area because I think the northern zone was down quite a bit (atleast around my area 6c)

There was an article not too long age form the dec on northcountrynow.com that said both northern and southern zones were up.  If you go to the dec website, I am sure there is info there.

Bubba the DEC may be right for the NZ but I didnt see that good of a response from the many locals that I've talked to. I wonder if it's all dec talk to help the declining sales for next year. I know I went out about 20 times this rifle season and I did get a big heavy horned 8 but other than that I see only 1 spike and maybe 30 doe's some of which were probably repeats and this is hunting about 6-700 acres of private land.

I understand your concerns. I saw a few deer all season, but I was productive.  If you look at sites from across the state, everyone including the sz guys are saying they saw less deer. I personally think it was a freak year for hunting. Weather, moon phases and rut were all screwed up.  In late ML, I saw more deer than I did for the season. I tok a nice 8 filled a dmp and passed u p a deer early ml and late ml.  I hunted in 6c for the first time, as I had been hnting 6a.  I am very happy about the season I had.

Had 5 deer in the yard this morning and 30 turkeys. Turkeys are looking fat.
