Republicans joining democrats

Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who appeared with Schumer, agreed that the law was not written with a case like Loughner in mind.

"There's a hole in what we need to do. And I'm willing to work with Senator Schumer and anybody else that wants to make sure people who are mentally ill cannot get and use a gun," he said.

The gun grabers are starting!

The problem is government would be setting the standard for what mentally ill is.

If when this guy threatened others, the sheriff allowed them to file a complaint with the sheriffs department, and the guy was arrested for making the threats, he would not have been allowed to buy a gun.

Exactly right Dude. The Sheriff's department or whichever LE office that has dealt with that guy before, didn't do their job and allowed him to stay under the radar. We already have laws concerning the mentally ill owning guns. The ill just have to be identified. From what I've heard, they had plenty of chances to identify and catagorize this guy as mentally ill, to get him some help or off the streets. They chose instead to be dupniks and turn a blind eye.

His mom worked for the county, she had all his crap fixed, happens all the time! Cops kids don't get arrested they and other people of influence kids get a call to come pick up their kid! Yours or mine goes to jail!

      So the senate is back in session and Coburn & Schumer have it all worked out.. the Republicans & Democrats will set side by side and cozy up to each other...   Kinda makes you wonder who will 'buddy up" with Barney Frank ?

       These old line Republicans better wake up...the Democrats ate their lunch during the 'lame duck' session and some (like Coburn) are starting to fall for the same old line of crap which got them in trouble last time..they can be thrown out on their butts also !

I find it interesting how it is that since the Republicans have won over a large portion of the house...suddenly the Democrats are talking..bipartisanship, cooperation and understanding..
   That's a far cry from the last 2 years, when they alone crafted their infamous "Obamacare" bill behind closed doors, and then voted it through without even reading it and when Obama reminded McCain publicly that he won the election, and .."elections have meaning".  
   I can recall this type of duplicity happening over several decades; the Democrats win big, they run roughshod over the Republicans and our freedoms . ...But when the Republicans win big...the Democrats are all for peace, cooperation, civility and bipartisanship !
        Some Republicans are about to fall for that old crap again .  Problem with that is, there are many conservatives who have tired of the old-line limp wristed Republicans and have gone over toward the Tea Party for keeps !  Thw weak-water Willies may be out on their duffs next election.
