What? Colt New Frontier in .44 spl?
« on: January 18, 2011, 03:24:35 AM »
I just popped onto the Michael Blane blog and he said he is testing the new Colt New Frontier in .44 spl.  Wow!  Colt has finally caught on!  Personally, I'd love one but it's probably priced out of my reach at this time.  Wish I had more info from the Shot Show.  44 Man

Could you list a direct link? I went to his site but could not find the blog on the Colt.

Try Gunblast.com, I think that's where it's posted.
It'll be great news if it's not priced way out of reach. We can buy a 3rd gen for somewhere around $1200.

On another site Boge Quinn mentioned a MSRP of $1450. Should be on gun blast today 1-18.
( IMHOIf it is anything like my 3rd gen SAA, I'll be shooting my flattop and not be buying a Colt. ) CRASH87

I got a new 3rd. gen. NF 44spl. last years.  Wouldn't shoot worth a darn with some ammo I had loaded.  Checked bore and chamber throats.  Cylinder throats were the problem.  They were .433".  Once I size my bullets to .433" groups shrank dramitically.

Rockrat, the oversize cylinder throats seems to be a common problem with Colt's of past years.  Hopefully they have caught on and tightened up their specs.  Even the imports have corrected that mistake.  And the imports only had oversize cylinder throats when they first started making single actions because they had copied their specs directly from old Colts.  You have to remember though, that most of the old cartridges were round nose, with a small cup in the bottom and made of soft lead.  They would 'bump up' easily and fill those large throats, and shoot acurately.  However we now love hard cast, flatnose bullets driven fast.  Those don't 'bump up' so easily, unless in a magnum.  So although Colt did it properly for the ammo of the time, we now know that correctly sized throats aid accurate shooting and Colt needs to get on the bandwagon.  Yup, it does make the Ruger flat top look better all the time, don't it.  Ah, but it still ain't a Colt!  44 Man

I'm hoping Colt will have it debugged, The New Frontier is a great six-gun. I'm glad they are back, hope they sell like hotcakes.
