You can use a shotgun barrel as the stub. My 32-20 Handi was made using a 410 Pardner barrel stub.

With proper fitting a shotgun stub will work fine. The higher pressure will be handled by the rifle barrel insert not the stub the stub just holds the barrel in place. It will require a SB2 receiver

It really depends on what chambering you go with. My 32-20 is on a shotgun frame and it works fine with no primer issues at all.
Jeepmann is right about the 7.62x54 though... it'll definitely need to go on an SB2 frame to be safe.

FWIW, I had a 25-20, now have a 25-35WCF with a faster twist and more case capacity. It shoots the light loads and bullets as well as the 25-20 did and I can go heavier/faster too; it is the best of the traditional lead-launching .25s that Ive messed with.
