Scope Mounts for 209 x 50 Muzzle Loader
« on: December 17, 2003, 08:18:19 AM »
I have decided to take the plunge & buy a T/C Encore 209 x 50 Muzzleloader. My question is what Scope Mount is everybody useing.
On my Centerfire Rifles, I always use Leupold mounts, & I really like the Dual Dovetail System.  I am concerned about the close spacing of the Screw Holes & Rings on the Leupold Encore Dual Dovetail mount.
Do I need to use either the SSK "T'SOB" or Virgin Valley 6 Hole Weaver style bases?

Mine is equipped with a Weaver base and two Burris rings.  So far, so good, though I haven't fired a bunch of shots yet.  It worked on this year's elk though, so it can't be all bad!

Hello,  I too am partial to Leupold setups.......so I used their Quick-Release base and rings.  I really like it and have shot app 50 rounds without any problems.   Good luck.

I went with the Warne Maxima series.  The base and rings are made of steel and are super stout.  The fit and finish are worth the higher price tag.  Only drawback that I see is that they are heavier than the aluminum set-ups.  Here's a pic for reference.  I went with the medium height QD rings on my 209X50.  They make for perfect eye aligntment and allow a gloved thumb to cock the hammer.  Plus, only about 1/16" between the rear sight and scope - allowed me to keep the rear sight in place as a back-up.

Weaver #410.  Many more ring options than the Leopold/Redfield system.  Also the the scope can easily be removed without losing zero, verticle alignment, or eye relief.
