What do you think is the best wt.and bullet type for a 270 bolt gun?

To do what? Shoot varmints? Predators? Deer? Antelope? Elk? Moose? Targets?

Need more info.

I really like the Nosler BT in the 130 grn. flavor. I shoot pigs, BT deer, and yotes. My gun likes them the best and they perform great.

The one that shoots the best! My #1 270 likes sierra 150gr spitzer boat tails the best my oldest son's rifle likes speer spitzer flat base 150gr and my youngest son's rifle likes speer 130gr spitzer flat base. So the way that I see it there isn't a best bullet only the bullet that your gun likes best.

My 270 Remington M700 seems to like most bullets I've tried. For Targets, Varmints, and Yotes out to how ever far you can hit'em, that Sierra 135 gr. MatchKing bullets can't be beat! - Yes MatchKing!! For long range deer and antelope I use the 150 grain Sierra GameKings BTs - The 150 BTs carry a lot of energy out to that long of distance, the bullet expands reliably out there and they seem accurate enough to allow these long shoots too. For deer in close I load 130 grain Rem. CoreLokts down to about 2700 fps - The CoreLokts are very accurate from my rifle.

Have never had the opportunity to hunt Elk or Moose. Probably would not choose the 270 for this but if you do I would load the very best (toughest) bullet I could find that would shoot accurately for your rifle. A 160 grain Nosler partition, 150 Swift A or 150 Speer Grand Slam come to mind. If anyone chooses to try these bullets in a 270 for Elk or Moose buy enough of them so you can practice a lot with the load your going to hunt with!

We have plenty of excellent bullets for the 270. The 130 grain Nosler Partition will readily handle most any task the 270 Winchester is suited for.

I agree with TNrifleman.

I also like the 130 gr and 150gr. Nosler Partition (PAR), even when the Nosler 150gr. Ballistic Tip (BT) shoots better groups in my rifle. From my experience, the BT expands violently and leaves a viscious exit wound (softball sized), while the PAR expands predictably, expends its energy in the wound cavity, and exits with a slightly larger hole than on entrance.

I have NEVER found a PAR in game. All have exited cleanly. I have found several BT's and the reminants of their copper jackets still in the game.

I have shot Speer Grand Slams with dismal results (of a sort). All game was retrieved, but with considerable tracking. Little to no expansion was recognized with all shots taken within 250 yards. The accuracy in my rifle was dismal too. I suspect the penetration was phenominal, but the game (deer) was not "tough enough" for that premium bullet to perform as designed.
