460 s&w and scopes
« on: January 22, 2011, 01:46:24 PM »
What are some proven scopes to put on these 460 s&w pistol barrels? I have a bushnell trophy but I'm a bit scared to put it on because I think a 460 might destroy it. I did find a decent deal on a weaver(anybody have one on a 460).

I have 4X fixed Leupolds on both my 460 and 500 revolvers.  I have a Bushnell 2 X 6 Trophy on my 500 S&W Encore barrel.  Had no trouble with any of them so far.

The 460 S&W is pretty hard on scopes.  Between my 460 S&W & 500 S&W, I broke one Bushnell Trophy handgun scope.  Bushnell wouldn't honor their warranty saying the scope had been "abused."

I also broke 2 T/C "Recoil Proof" scopes but T/C replaced them both with new scopes.  In addition, at least 2 Leupold 2.5-8X scopes have malfunctioned while on my 460 S&W but Leupold fixed them both at no charge.

The conclusion; put a good scope on the barrel from a manufacturer who will honor their warranty.

I am not a bit surprise at bushnell not honoring their so called warranty. Business as normal with Thompson Center and Leupold honoring their warranty, that a no brainer.

I'd go with the Leupys.  I've got a 4X on the 460 and a 2X on both my 500 S&W and 50 Alaskan.  All of these are pistol barrels.  Last year (2010) I broke 3 Weaver 2X, 1 Burris, 1 4X redfield "Magnum Proof" (it wasn't) and had to have one of the Leupys returned.  I had to excuse the Leupy though as I had used it for the last 12 years.  One of the Weavers (NIB) lasted exactly 44 rounds of midrange 500 loads.
If I agreed with you then we would both be wrong.
