PT140 Pro firing pin drag
« on: January 22, 2011, 05:04:34 PM »
Just bought a PT140 Pro today.  Went to the gunshow looking for a Keltec PF-9 but there were none.  After putting a couple mags through it, I just so happened to pick up a spent shell and noticed that the firing pin is dragging.  Not sure of the correct term, but it appears that it is ejecting the round before the pin pulls back in.  As I'm pretty novice on guns (my first personally owned pistol) is this somewhat normal? Should I be worried of it damaging the firing pin?

I have a PT 111 and a PT 145 which are similar to the 140 just a different caliber and both of mine do the same thing.  I have put several hundred rounds through them and except for the drag marks they work all the time every time so I just ignore the issue and just shoot them.  As far as I am concerned they are just an excellent buy and I do not think from what I have seen of the guts of them that the firing pin rebounds at all as it is a stiker that is grabbed by the sear during recoil before the slide goes forward and held to the rear by the sear until the next shot.

First of all, be glad that you bought the PT 140 and that you did not buy the KelTec PF9. I have had a PT 140 for about 3 years now and I really like it. I have found that it seems a bit heavy to carry in my pants pocket and for that reason I bought the KelTec. The KelTec is light and has a slim fit, but it will grab your trigger finger and wear a sore spot in the palm of your shooting hand if you fire more than one mag per shooting session. In my opinion the PT 140 is a far better piece of hardware and after at least 1000 rounds, I am still loving it. I have not noticed the firing pin drag on my pistol but if it is there, it is not hurting anything.
