1911 Style 10mm
« on: January 23, 2011, 06:11:39 AM »
Does anyone have the Dan Wesson 1911 style 10mm? If so does it shoot/handle well? Does anyone know of ANYONE else making a 1911 in 10mm? Thanks

Colt, STI (maybe), Kimber did at one time---I think the 10mm was offered by a # of folks when it was a hot issue.

Kimber does 2 models, the Stainless Target II and the Eclipse. Colt does the Delta Elite, Nighthawk arms does a couple of models as well.

There are quite a few used 10mm 1911s floating around for sale.  Gunbroker has about 20 listed right now.

If you like the GLOCK platform, the Model 20 or 29 may be interesting to you.

I searched high and wide for a commander lenght 10mm 1911 and cant see where anyone made them. I kind of think that it would be close to an altimate trail gun.

Lloyd

Dan Wesson made a stainless bobtail commander in 10mm up until last year i believe. I've run into one person with one and they liked it alot. Keep your eyes on the auction sites and one may come up but I think they are fetching a good price.

Picked up a 10mm DW CBOB a few years back.  Gun had a reputation in the shop for not going into battery well with all ammo...  Ordered a finish chamber reamer from Brownell's.  Reamer would not slide into the chamber.  Didn't cut much but it did remove a little bit.  Gun is fine now.

A good friend of mine had a Colt Delta Gold Cup in 10mm. It was stainless with adjustable sights. I shot a box of rounds through it and I found it to be very accurate. I understand that some of the early Colt Deltas showed advanced wear to the frame with some showing cracks to the frame. Later models did not have issues.  I don't know much about the Dan Wesson pistols but I have had the chance to look at some over the counter. I believe that the finish is better on the Wesson guns than the Colt - as far as reliability and function, I can't comment.

That said, I've been searching for a clean S&W 1006 for some time. I've had great success with my S&W 4006 and hope to own it's bigger brother at some time.

Happy hunting!

Paul

I have a DW RZ-10  it is a pre-CZ and had 3 other 1911s sold them and kept this one for it was the best I had ever shot.  I have shot many other 1911 from Colt to Wilsons (I was part of a shooting club a tried many some came close to DW but none where better.  My only complain is I hate chasing brass and I almost never shot factory ammo.

I have a Kimber target and it is the best gun I have ever own. It is VERY accurate, does not jam, and really kills whitetailds. I shot one using Rem GS 165 grains in the ribs, and it made a fist size hole. I would have to say I really like this gun!

As far as power they say its equal to the 41mag ballastics but i haven't looked at them yet.
Colt offers a Delta Elite in 10mm on there website in stainless.  I been wanting to get a pistol in 10mm too but i'm on the fence.  I need to take a closer look at all of them.  I may look at the EEA witness in 10mm too.  I like the CZ pistols but i'm not sure if they offer one in 10mm yet.  I swear by the CZ quality is flawless in every CZ that i own.  The EEA has a larger capacity mag over the colt and its probably smaller in size(EEA over the colt too). So my search continues till i find the right one that i like too.   CZY
