Post May 2008 Serial Number DOM
« on: January 23, 2011, 12:57:57 PM »
I've been curious about the new S/N format as it relates to date of manufacture (DOM).  I realize that the Y prefix ended in May of 2008 and went to CBA for SB2 frames and CAC for SB1 frames, but now we have no way of knowing the exact year of manufacture.

I'm sure H&R has a break down that says the 2009 range are number between this and that, and 2010 is between this and that, but does anyone know this information?

I have CBA frames that are 124xxx and 231xxx, and CAC frames that are 212xxx and 247xxx.

I'm not sure why they went away from the easy to decipher year of manufacture to a more Ruger like (or Marlin or Remington more than likely) way of serializing frames.

Thanks for the help.
-Kyle

Nope, H&R is the only source, it's all done in their computers, you'd have to call to find out when it was made, and I don't know for sure if CS can tell you, let us know when ya call!  :D

Tim,

I just got off the phone with H&R (Steve) concerning an incorrect fore end they sent with my synthetic stock set.  (They sent the old style forend with the new MC checkered stock).  I think he's just sending me the correct one, he didn't say anything about the old one I have.  We'll see.

When we  got done, I asked him if I could speak to someone about serial numbers and DOM.  When I asked about the new S/N format and it relation to DOM he said there was, "no ryhme or reason" and that there is, "no way to tell".

If this really is the case I think it's a shame.  Knowing the DOM of each receiver is one of the things I liked about our Handis.

thanks,
-Kyle

Kyle, so the only thing they can tell us is what barrels can be fitted, they don't even know when a frame was made?

thx,

Tim
