Where can I buy another transfer bar !!
« on: January 23, 2011, 08:30:00 PM »
Giday folks , I got a wee problem with a  nef / h&r  superlite 20 inch handi in .243 . I brought this rifle for my son about a month ago secondhand way down under in new zealand . Problem is the transfer bar has slipped out and I can't find it anywhere.I have called the agents in new zealand but no luck with them . Can any one suggest where I might get one thru a reliable internet store that with ship down to new zealand. We havn't even had chance to shoot it at the range yet . Any help would gratefully accepted  Kev

Brownell's would ship to NZ as long as the order amount is less than $100, but they're out of stock on the T-bar, have been for a while.

Numrich has a replacement in stock tho, http://www.gunpartscorp.com/catalog/Detail.aspx?pid=1139220A&catid=3626

They do ship international, but apparently charge $25 plus shipping charges, I can order one for you and send it myself for cost plus $13.25 shipping, I've sent reloading stuff to OZ before.

Wow  that is great news ! Here I was between a rock and a hard place and you guys have jumped in and saved my bacon . This Internet thingy sure is a handi  ;D thing . Thanks Tim for the offer I will try and deal with Numrich directly first . If I have no luck I will PM you and take you up on your kind offer .Heres the thing the New Zealand agents are happy to sell new handis but not interested in any back up service  >:(. About 7 or so years ago the transfer bar on my bull barrel .243 handi did the same thing and the old New Zealand agents had it fixed and back to me in no time .Just goes to show change is not always a good thing ! Cheers Kev

I wonder if an earlier style hammer would fit & work to make it not need a transfer bar.

The transfer bar feature is one I really like :).Hunting in new zealand bush can get very tight, where you often get only one chance at a shot . I like to hunt with a live round  up the spout ,and knowing there is no pressure of a hammer sitting gently against a live primer :o. I am no expert but just feel safe with this system . I have tried other rifle actions but aways come back to my old favorite handi . Just lately I've been thinking about 30/30 handi and getting it reamed out to 30/30ai after reading on here just how good they are for hunting deer out to 200 yards . Tim will I have to knock out the pins and reassemble the trigger to fit the new tbar or can you just slip the new one in from the top when the hammer is on full cock? I have checked out handi info at the top but just keen to know if there is any short cuts. Cheers Kev

Kev,

You'll have to remove all but one of the pins to replace the t-bar, download Perklo's trigger hone info in the FAQs. it has complete, detailed instructions with pics.
