I'm with Bigblock here.  After missing a doe at 60 yrds from a piece of junk Winchester 209 primer which puffed and that was it I switched to CCI.  This year I took a buttonbuck at 157 yds with the CCI and 95 grains og BH209.

I would never EVER use a winchester primer again.

Many M-Ls do better with a hot primer shooting B209,especially in cold weather. I use a CCIM just to be covered at all times.

I use Winchester primers....They are the hottest burning primer, which is a good thing when your trying to light off a muzzleloader.  I have never used CCi's in a muzzleloader, but they are great in my pistol cartridge loads.  Remember to stick with one brand, as your muzzleloader will shoot differently  brand to brand.

Handle these with care.  If they come in contact with any moisture, regardless of brand, they will misfire.  Often people blame misfires on the brand, when a wet pocket or a drop on the ground is all is takes to contaminate the primer.  Keep them in a some plastic container, or most quick loads have a contained spot for them.  Also, after cleaning or before your first load, fire off a primer to clear the breach plug, any moisture or lube in the breach plug will also play havoc on your primer.  Good luck!

actually i think the cci 209m is the hottest.

Winchester W209's are mild.

My bad :-[.....I know the Winchester rifle primers are the hottest by my reload data, just assumed the 209's followed suite. but they are still good primers.  I think the main focus, as I stated above, is the care taken not to contaminate the primer.

BTW, I found this and thought it was a good read....     http://www.hpmuzzleloading.com/Technical3.html
