Mach 2 question..
« on: January 24, 2011, 07:14:15 PM »
Hello all,
Short time listener & first time poster here. ::)  Here's my question maybe questions.  Picked up my first NEF rifle last week.  It's a Mach 2 and I was wondering about the reciever.  What are my options if I choose to add different barrels?  Who of you have one?  Likes & dislikes?  Anyway, I feel that I'll be around for a while as I'm fond of the .45 Buffalo Classic & 20GA Ultra Slug. :)  I'm pretty certain that I'll eventually ad them to my arsonal.
Later,
Blue

Welcome! Only rimfire barrels can be used on the SS1 Sportster frame, 22Lr, 22mag and 17hmr. But unless you buy used barrels and fit them yourself, it's much more practical to buy a complete rifle than an accessory barrel from H&R which will cost almost as much with shipping both ways, fitting fee and tax, see barrel fitting in the FAQs for info on fitting a used barrel.

Actually, the only other barrel I'd like for this receiver is someone beater .22.  Plan on sleeving with a .17 and chamber for .17 Aguila. :)

Thanks for the welcome!

Or a 17M2 barrel which the Aguila will work in also.  ;)

Tim is correct (as usual). I have an H&R Sportster in .17 Mach2 and I shoot .17 Aquilas out of it with no problems....<><....:)

I shoot 17HMR & 17M2 out of my Sportster. Both will shoot 5 shot groups that I can easily cover wit ha dime at 50 yards and under
1 inch at 100 yards on a calm day.

On a lighter, less intelligent note, I have fired .17 HMR's out of my .22 Mag Sportster (don't ask) and could not hit anything.
OK, since you asked (I said don't ask!!) here is how the above Faux pas came about. At the time I had both my .22 Mag Sportster and my 17 HMR set up exactly the same way, they looked almost identical. I grabbed my .17 HMR ammo and what I thought was my .17 HMR Sportster, along with a couple of shotguns and some slugs and off to the range. After I finished the few slugs from each of the shotguns I then grabbed the rifle, put in a .17 HMR and expected to hit the target, not a mark!!. I shot a couple more and then walked down expecting they were all in one hole in the center (only 50 yards to start), nothing on the paper.
I bore sighted it, right on, meved the target up to 25 yards, nothing. Only by luck did I notice there were no .17 fired cases on the ground behind me. But there were, only they were blown out to look like .22 caliber cases...not to good on the accuracy department, .17 HMR's out a .22 Mag rifle....<><....:)

(to this day I don't know why I did not notice my error when I boresighted it)

My 17M2 is the most accurate rimfire I have ever shot and I have shot quite a few.

Enjoy yours!!

MSP Ret, What kind of accuracy do you get with the Aguilas? I use Eley but it is always good to be able to
use more than one brand of ammo.
