I'm looking for help to catch a beaver that is in water too shallow to drownd him. Also i can't use a conibear that is not submerged completely and i don't own one bigger than a 220. i do have some belisles and i think that would get him if i knew how to get him to stick his head in.

Osso,I never advocate the use of 220s on beaver,If you do not get them to enter correctly --you end up with an educated beaver.
 When I trap beaver in states that require total submersion of the 330,I make my castor mound,dig an area out in front until the water covers the top of the trap. I then use 2 cross sticks over the top of the trap,and block off the sides.Also I place the trigger on the bottom.
 Does your 220 also have to be submerged totally?If you cant come up with a 330 ,and are forced to a 220---look for a pinch point to make your set.     Tom

it has to be totally submerged.  unless i buy one i do not have a 330. what about a snare? and how would u stake it?

Oso, a snare will work.Unless you place it on a drowner,expect a live beav.You may have to double stake or use a real long one.though you may be able to tie off to something substantial.Remember if you tie off to a tree make sure it is a big one  lol.  
 A snare tied off to a small tree can lead to a loss of everything.I tied off a 280 to small trees one time,that tail caught beaver made short work of them.When I went to pick up a live beaver,I thought was still tied off--imagine my surprise when he charged out to greet me.
 A 330 purchase will allow you to take care of things like this in the future.
I am not trying to sell you one,just advocating a full arsenal of equpment when an emergency arises.

i can attest to not using the 220, two days in a row i checked my 220 that i had under the ice in a nice run to a food raft.  both days i checked and the trap was set off and the trigger was all bent and there was a little bit of hair and my set up was a mess.  i think that the beaver was probably too big and just muscled his way out of the smaller weaker 220.  well i got my hands on some 330 and i know that will make all the difference in the world.

Truer word were never spoken, Tom.  Oso,  I have caught beaver in 220s and have a TON of faith and confidence in Belisle 220s.  But, I would hesitate to use them on beaver if I had my druthers.   Another set to try is one I saw in a Johnny Thorpe demo.  Trap is a #2 offset with short chain and lots of swivels.  You must target the front foot!!  Stake it solid with an earth anchor or long cross pegs.  Only used this set once, and beaver was there waiting for me in the morning.  Small trap won't damage the foot.  I don't have any experience with snaring, but it sounds like your best option.
