Rabbit urine??
« on: January 27, 2011, 12:44:01 PM »
Maybe a dumb question, butt do you spray your decoy with any scent?

Wife has a rabbit(no she wont let me use it  ;D)  Was wondering if i was able to get the bunny to pee in a spray bottle, then lightly spray the decoy. Do you think it would help or hurt? He is a male so I am not worried about other bunnies attacking  ::)

I was actually grining when I typed that. I knew someone would catch it  :D

My thought was a piece of plastic sheeting under the cage, angled and into a bucket.

You can buy rabbit scent already in the bottle. Don't know if it's urine.
I'd drip some near/around the decoy so it won't start stinking.
I think the decoy is more for sight but try it and let us know.

Must be a BIG RABBIT if you need a bucket ;D

If the critter gets downwind and smells your decoy would he not smell you also...............If a yote gets that close anyway I think you would have already givin him his parking ticket!!

Big Varmint,  I can not get momma to hold the bottle close enough  ;D  I do agree with the decoy being more for sight. Was just trying to think of improvements.

 Kansasj,
I was thinking if they got or came in from down wind, the urine may help hide my odor?  Hopefully your right on if they get that close, he will not be smelling anything but dirt.  ;)

Rabbit urine is strong enough to cover a skunk! My rabbit is fortunately potty trained. They have the strongest urine of any animal I know of. I think it would make an excellent defense spray!! The offender would be too busy puking to continue the attack.

I usede to raise rabbits as an alternative and very succulent meat source, used some and marketed most.  In case any of you have not tried it, do so.  Nothing like wild rabbit, it is all white meat..low fat & high protein..barbecue sauce goes straight through.
If the rabbit is raised in a conventional cage (mine had wire bottoms) they will always pick a given corner to urinate.  Simply putting a receptical under that corner will suffice.
There is a rabbit cover scentby Pete Rickard, while it is not labeled as urine, what else would it be ?

Lonny, I used to put fox urine on my boots before I walked to my deer stand. I think it helped. I found an old stuffed rabbit my kids had and a little scent box that you could pin to it. I think archers used to use them. I was gonna put rabbit scent on it but never got to it and bought a Fox Pro. I would think the scent would help cover yours and fox urine may make yotes come in to steal a Foxes meal. You probably only need the visual decoy, unless YOU really stink. Maybe just wear your Skunk hat when you go ;D Try it, I'm gonna if I ever get time again. You better get to killing them yotes if you want any deer next year ;D Good Luck!

"Gander Mountain" has some kind of rabbit scent to train gun dogs/retrievers...haven't used it for yotes yet but man...the stuff smells nasty. :P
Like bigvarmtn...I used fox urine on my boots (still have some left) a few seasons ago for archery deerhunting and darned if a large red fox did not follow me  to my treestand and surprise me!. I was dozing off  while  being rocked by the breeze when I heard the patter of feet coming.Knew it was not deer.
He came to the base of the tree and circled it once or twice while I debated if he was a: Furbearer or varmint .He took off and spared me the decision..but what a great experience.
