Rimfire question
« on: January 28, 2011, 09:59:51 AM »
Here's what I want:
- A .22lr bolt with a quality aperture rear and globe front sight.
- In normal weight (6-8lbs) for hunting.
- With a barrel and trigger good enough for target work.
- A quality gun that I can leave to my kids.

I've been looking and it appears hard to find a modern bolt that can accept both globe and rear aperture sights.  Some (like 452 American) seem to take the rear but not the front.  The 452 Lux might work but I cant get behind that curved stock design.

Is it possible to find what I want without buying an Anschutz?

Look at Savage. They have one that I think might work for you.

If you are not apposed to used, back in the 50's thru the 70's or so, Marlin and Mossberg made a series of highly accurate bolt action 22's with target rear peeps and globe fronts.  They usually had great triggers, and nice walnut stocks.  A lot of guys bought these, cut the barrels down to 16 inches, and thinned out the stocks, making great squirrel guns.

Thinking along with Bigeasy the Winchester 69A would be a good choice also if you could find one in good condition. I have one and it is an excellent rifle. Mine came with parts of the front and rear sights. Lyman had replacements.
