President's Afghanistan Gaffe
« on: January 28, 2011, 02:21:36 PM »
President Obama recently declared, "As I said, we will be out of Afghanistan by the end of this year." Then he declared, "Combat operations in Afghanistan have ended."

Neither of these statements is accurate. He was getting Afghanistan mixed up with Iraq. If this were Reagan or George W. Bush, the press would be all over it, depicting the president as senile, stupid, doddering, a pawn of his aides or vice president, or worse. Instead, the press has almost entirely ignored it. As of this morning the White House hadn't posted a transcript of the interview (as it often does with presidential statements or remarks) on its Web site, either.

In his defense, when you consistently lie, it is hard to lie consistently.  ;D
The sole purpose of government is to protect your liberty. The Constitution is not to restrict the people, but to restrict government.  Ron Paul

The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first. - Thomas Jefferson

Thats right, he doesn't know the difference. To a liberal, lying is necessary and they see no wrong in it, anything to stay in power. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

eh... if he spoke as you report, it was an error. I suspect if you asked the President, he's say as much. As you thinking that this error deserves some attention?

Guess it depends on which side of the fence ya sit on.

Certainly if it was bush, reagan, palin, limbaugh, or a host of any other, other than leftist, it would receive more scrutiny and air time. For instance: How many times did we have to listen to that moron gw mispronounce the word "nuclear" ?  Stay tuned for the next "fair and balanced" news report.

yt3, the point is the President made a simple mistake for which any other conservative figure would've been eviscerated, and ABC would've had medical professionals speculating as to their medical fitness to continue to serve. Why the pass for him?

It is OK with me if we get out of Afganistan tomorrow. Also get out of Iraq, Yemen, Kuwait, Korea, Bosnia, Germany, Columbia, Cuba, England, and Japan. Then we could put troops on the borders where they are actually needed. Having that many armed men around that have sworn to protect our Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic, makes politians very anxious.

Like when the Democrats lambasted Bush for mispronouncing nuclear, or the famous potato incident, or ... and so on. All molehills that surmounted to questions of mental ability. Is that the type of molehill to which you refer?

(shrug) maybe the folks you're thinking of like him better than conservatives. Maybe they've realized that crappy behavior is something to be avoided, and Obama is the beneficiary of that realization. Beats me.

I think beating up Obama (or Bush, or Clinton) over 'gaffs' is sport for ideologues & fanatics, mostly, and something decent folk ought not engage in (but i have, in times past...)

That would be enlightened, wouldn't it. I hope it keeps up, and is charitably applied to everyone in public office for a while. Nice to see some common decency at work.

Spoke in error? When you hold the key to the American nuclear arsenal and can destroy the world on your breath error is not acceptable. Period....

I take it you were sticking up for Bush when the "left wingers" were doing the "molehill" thing to him.
Sounds as if you were?  I guess I have to commend you for that.

Personally I did not make a big deal of what Obama said, I knew what he meant, the guy is under intense pressure with no experience in anything he has surrounded himself with. A person is bound to have a few mis-speaks, especially when a person speaks so much so often.

More to come...he has at least 500 more speaches to deliver.
