I've been looking for an entry level 1911. The salesman showed me the Taurus for $650 and it looks like a good tight gun with excellent trigger pull. I've had no experience owning a Taurus. Can anyone comment on the reliability and overall quality.

I own one and have shot it a lot. I did change out the hammer and sear because the safety lock would turn and lock the hammer after two or three hundred rounds. The blue one have a tendency for the bluing to wear off.

Other than the thin bluing and the billboard on the slide, an excellent choice for an entry level .45. Decent sights, fair trigger, and reliable. I bought one back when they first became available. Probably have around 1000 rds through it. No issues, and decent accuracy. Prices look to have gone up since I bought mine, but it would still be a better bargain than other entry level 1911 clones I've experienced.

the one I'm looking at is stainless steel with wood grips-did some research and overall seems pretty decent for what you get.

A short time back I bought a used SS Taurus, I'm happy with it. It had a few burrs on the inside of the frame I removed ( didn't seem to affect function ), and like an above poster, I replaced the hammer and strut with Ed Brown pieces ( don't care for a "locking" system that could malfunction ). I lilke it. One thing I wish were different, it uses its specific extractor... I tried to get a replacement from Taurus ( just to have, didn't need it ), and they only had them in stock for their own use....maybe that will change. Other parts are, to the best of my knowledge, G.I.

save your money and get a colt or kimber. resale will be better. you'll be happy .

Clint Smith carries a Taurus 1911 , had to replace a few parts no big deal. The frame and slide are forged . The advice on resale is good advice

I guess one can find negatives in anything. Overall the quality seems good. Awhile back I bought a Browning High Power which was supposed to be "quality". Jams, hammer bite-you name it. I sent it to Browning and after 6 weeks I got it back and it has functioned great. I guess it's the old saying don't buy anything manufactured on a Monday.

That is a good point: when considering purchasing anything it is wise to also know how well the manufaturer stands behind their work. Any company makes product they wish they hadn't.

buddy had one and claimed it was realible and accurate. I never personaly shot it though. He sold it mostly because he just couldnt tolorate the giant TARUS on the slide. He said it was like a giant billboard proclaiming he was to cheap to buy a good gun or to stupid to know the differnce.

Ha, ha! Well said! I've been thinking about having mine buffed out and hard chromed just for that reason----------!! I might even pull it out at the range in the company of people I know.

I think for about $100.00 cheaper than that you can get one of the Remington R1's but I beleive they only come in blue. I really like mine I have 4 other 1911's and it is the most accurate than all of them.

The R1 "Enhanced" would be a better comparison to the Taurus. It has a suggested retail of 900+, and I don't believe the Rem is available in stainless.

I bought one when they first came out, and I would say that it was money well spent. I have had no problems with function, and fit of this pistol. The big Taurus on the slide doesn't bother me.

I was torn between the Rem and Taurus. The Rem has a creepy trigger. I bought the Taurus. Can't wait to get to the range.

I have had a blued one for about three years that I bought used off a guy. I also own a Kimber elite II and other than markings on the guns and the finish I see little or no difference where it counts between the two pistols. They both shoot and function the same and are equal as to accuracy and the taurus cost me several hundred dollars less than the kimber. I have replaced nothing on the taurus but did get a new mainspring housing for the Kimber as I could not stand plastic on a gun that cost me so much $$$.

well I've fired almost 500 rounds through the Taurus and haven't had one problem. Each one cycled perfectly with 3 different types of ammunition. Next to my Browning hi power this has become my favorite.

It seems those who typically rip on Taurus don't own them. Just their buddy does and he...

I absolutely agree that resale is not as good as but are you buying a collector or a tool?

I have 2 Colts. I just got a two tone Taurus I fully admit I don't have a thousand rounds through yet but the first 100 flawless

if it functions like me 92 Taurus I will be thrilled

i just ordered one 1911 in 9mm i hope its as good as my spring field in 45 cal it shoots great with any thing i have tried i didn't even know at the time the frame was made by taurus nice guns.

I just bought a ss 1911 today for 500. I couldn't find a better deal for the money. The other 1911 only had GI sights and were the cheap Blueing or parkerized. Also the taurus came with 2 clips. I'm happy and can live with the billboard.

I've had three tauruses only one good one of the three I had a p85 back in the day I had one of the PT1911 and I have a 3 inch chambered judge. I am a machinist by trade and I ended up selling the pt1991 in a month first off I couldn't stand the taurus logo on the side and I couldn't bear having a gun with such horrible machining. Third reason mainly, when I first got the gun it shot great but after 200 rounds it wore down all the chatter marks on the rails and I was lucky if it kept a clip on a 8 inch paper plate. Kinda odd haveing a gun that shoots 1.5 inches and at the end of 200rds will barely shoot 8inches. I've since releaved my urge for a 1911 and bought one of the SR1911 from ruger as far as machining quality it's 3 times the gun that PT1911 ever will be for the same money.

I've had no problems in accuracy, wear or anything. Quite happy with mine. I've bought cars, firearms etc in the past which everyone praised and mine turned out to be a lemon. Many years ago I bought a Browning hi-power which was supposed to be a classic well made firearm. I returned it twice to Browning due to jamming and other problems. They finally fixed it right on the second try. Things happen.

Everyone should have what they want. My first 1911 was a LLama, shot to pieces, and in general a hunk of junk. I did not get another for 30 years.

I hope you are happy with your Taurus. I know I am happy with my Kimber.
