Winter Blizzard
« on: January 31, 2011, 05:12:45 PM »
I may be missing in action for a few days if we lose power. We are suppose to get hit with a major Winter blizzard starting tomorrow night. They are predicting 3/4" of ice topped with 6" to 12" of snow and three to four foot snowdrifts. Temps at night around 10 or more below and highs at best around 17. They are saying that tuesday all roads will be impassable and there won't be anyone going anywhere. Also that it will likely be the worst storm in 20 years. I'm stocked up on food, wood for the fireplace should we lose power since our furnace is electric, and jugs of water since we have a well. Also have all the meds my wife and I need so we should be ok. I'm just worrying about my son who has to work nights on patrol. He manages a security firm here in Branson. No chance of a thaw untill saturday and then it's suppose to get bad all over again. Global warming? Yeah right!  I think Winter is just a comunistic plot to make me go Brrrrrr!!!!! :( Stay warm everyone....SH ^i^

where you at?  So far the only thing we have gotten out of this "winter storm" is rain.  It should freeze up by morning, but its been below freezing since 2pm or so and its 10:15 and still no ice formations yet,  but it still is early as well.

OK, you guys, quite hogging that snow.  We need it bad.  We only have half of what we are supposed to have by this time of year.

From what I am seeing on the news you guys are really in for a blizzard.  They are real worried about the mid section of the states.  Be careful, stay in as much as possiable.  Most important stay warm.

We started getting snow around 1:00 AM this morning and we already have 4" on the ground on top of the 10" we already had. Like Spirithawk says, we will get 6-12 along with 3/4-1" of ice. I don't mind the snow but damn I hate that ice. I know we will loose power but question is how many days will it be out.

We are experiencing a one, two punch. Freezing rain now than snow followed by an ice storm. This winter has been a rough one so far. I'm staying home. Even my 4X4 won't work on ice.

It does seem that Algore and all the other alarmists are keeping kind of quiet.  However, out here in the west, we are enjoying what feels like an early spring.  The frogs are out and of all things, I've seen honey bees out roaming around.  I think they are a bit perplexed though, because it's still a little early for flowers.

I'm about half way between Branson and Reed Springs, Missouri. It's 7:30 am and we're getting freezing rain, sleet and snow. They are saying that power outages are a given. Just a matter of how long.  This will be doubly hard since I've been fighting pneumonia again. Think I'll stay in bed and hibernate! Stay safe and try and stay warm........SH ^i^

You boys best hunker down. Here in my part of KY we are supposed to miss most of it, mostly rain. Saw a map last night of Ill about where Mom is and the map was showing 1-2 ft of snow expected on top of ice. Won't be going back this weekend. I hope it doen't get that bad, Jadyn has been getting blood several X a week and thats a 200 mile round trip. Keep us posted on conditions if you can. POWDERMAN.  :o :o :o :o :o :o

Here in the sunny southwest it was 70 degrees yesterday. About 4 o'clock yesterday the wind changed and the dirt from Texas came blowing in and the temperature started down in a hurry. We have a little snow on the ground but as usual most has blown away because the wind has been about 30 miles an hour. It's snowing again now and the thermometer is stuck on 7 degrees. Low tonight is forecast to drop to1 degree with a high of 16 tomorrow. There is ice on the roads because the snow melted for awhile yesterday so you have to be very careful driving.

Fortunately I don't have to go outside today. Schools are delayed I'm sure but other than that everyone that works just goes about their business. It takes a little longer to get where your going and if you work outside you put on more clothes. The warmup is supposed to happen Friday. Come on, southwest wind.

It's 9:30am and the ice is coming down heavy. Been doing so since before I awoke to it hitting the window at 7:30am and it's just really getting started good. See you all in the Spring when I thaw out.

39 here is San Antonio.  Wind is blowing pretty good.  I'd guess around 15 mph.  Should make the wind chill down in the 20's.  Supposed to be down to 20 tonight with 20 mph winds.  Sort of freaky for south Texas...

Woke up this mornin about 4 to sleet hitting the windows. 19 degrees now, with roads a solid sheet of ice, and light snow. Wind about 25 to 30mph with occasional gust about 50 mph. Weather boys say it ain't gonna warm up for about 3 more days. Glad I got home last night.

60 degrees here today in the Mojave dessert. We get 1 day of snow every 10 years. I think most people would call this a slight flurry.

Still have power so figured I'd check in.  Don't think we'll get it quite as bad as they were saying but still bad enough. Roads are all impassable due to ice and no thaw till saturday, if even then.  Most I think I'll have to deal with is the subzero temps. Tell you all what. If Al Gore were in front of me right now I'd kick him square in the nadds, force him to strip and toss him on his butt outside so he can enjoy his global warmth!  ;D

ya ya'll farther north are getting it good.  So far we've got a 1/4 of ice or so,  just enough to turn the sidewalks into ice rinks and cancel school, and even close a couple businesses.  Suppose to get round to tonight which is about a 1/4 more ice then suppose to chance to the white fluffy stuff after midnight,  various reports from 3-5 to 6-12 inches so who know.

Well we are on the backside of it now.
Still single digit temps, gonna stay below freezing until Friday for a few minutes.
The sun peeked out, but gets lost in the blowing snow. Lots of white outs.

Started off with high winds and ice/sleet then turned to snow all night.
Looks like we ended up with around 12-14 inches here.
Up by Tulsa in the town of Owasso they took almost 2 feet.

Got called off work today and tomorrow.
Good thing, I need a day to dig out.
I wish this snow would stay up north where it belongs.......

10 or so inches here and still snowing.  They say it will stop around midnight.  I just came in from running the plow for the last couple of hours.  I picked a bad fall to buy a place with 1/2 mile of asphalt driveway...

Michigan SW, snowing and high winds, blizzard conditions.  Been trying to keep the place clear of drifts since 5:00 PM, this is not letting up. Things will be plugged up good by morning.  About 19 degrees right now, don't know what the wind chill factor is.  Nothing will be moving much in this area in the morning.  We are at the front part of the storm now, supposed to go all night and tommorow and get colder.

I said I would stay inside yesterday and did. It finally managed 12 degrees. Not so lucky today. It's -2 with ice and a couple of inches of snow on the road and I have to drive in to the hospital for torture--uh, I meant therapy, this morning.

My wife's going to get to play in the snow with the jeep since I can't drive yet. For some reason I don't think she's looking forward to it. Maybe it's because of the frown on her face.  ;D
