CZ 75 Compact
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:18:47 PM »
I have looked at CZ's many times, but for whatever reason I have never bought one. I say that because I have never had a reason for not buying one...just haven't "pulled the trigger" on the purchase yet. I've been looking to replace my current CCW which is a kahr CW45 lately. The Kahr is nice for concealment because it is light weight, small, and thin, but my confidence level in it is pretty low do to repeated malfunctions across several hundred rounds of various different ammo.

I'm wanting to move back toward a regular compact frame vs the subcompact of the Kahr, so I'm thinking now might be my chance to give CZ a try. The CZ75 compact in 40s&w is what i've been eyeballing as it fits the frame size i'm looking for, and is in one of my favorite defensive calibers. 10 + 1 capacity allows for a respectable amount of firepower, and I do like the cocked and locked carry option that the CZ's platform affords.

So, are any of you all using the CZ75 Compact as a carry gun?

If so, what are your praises or complaints (or both) with this gun as a CCW piece?

THANKS!

I carry on occasion a CZ P01 (same size as a compact CZ 75) in 9mm. It's scarey accurate, and a lot of fun to shoot. 14+1 puts me within reach of some full size capacity 9's. I put the DPM recoil buffer internals in it since I feed it a steady diet of +P for defensive shooting. I like everything about this gun, ergonomics are superlative, capacity is respectable, it's not too short in the grip, I have big hands and finding a small gun for CCW that I get a full grip on is difficult. I usually have to resort to carrying full size guns.

Since I bought a Kadet conversion for it, it spends more time dressed up as a Kadet than it does a P01. The neat thing about it is, the Kadet conversion will also fit my CZ 75B 40S&W fullsize.

Last week I traded for a CZ P01 in 9mm.  It came with crimson trace laser grips, which are a little fatter than I ordinarily like.  For what ever reason, this gun fits me perfectly and is the easiest semi auto to shoot accurately that I've encountered to date.  Ordered a Kadet .22 conversion unit which came Friday.  I put the .22 conv on the P01 today and took it to the range.  Ran close to 200 rounds of Win and Fed bulk ammo thru it with nary a hickup -- functioning was 100 percent.  I would have shot a lot more except it was about 20 deg and the wind was blowing -- the old, cold fingers just couldn't handle/load those little 22s.   To say that I'm pleased with this gun and conversion kit would be an understatement.

The Kadet conv for the P01 needed a different slide release -- CZ will include this for free (if needed), just mention the model your conv kit is for.
