I frame

I was at the local gun shop today - Playing hookie headed back to the office from a sales call.
SHH don't tell.
Well,
Frank has a I frame hand ejector made in the 50's in 32 S&W long for $249.00
Good deal?  Should I add the smaller than J frame to the collection?

I've only seen one I frame in my life.  If I were a collector and not a shooter I would probably pick it up!

Picked one up in 38 S&W about a year ago.  Tight as a ..........well it is tight.  Love it and so does my wife.  It's now her revolver.  I'd like to find one in 32 long.  And I only paid $200 plus shipping.

You don't mention condition. If it's in excellent, tight condition, buy it.

Thanks for the replys I bought it last night as an early b day present
I can pick it up on the 15th (California waiting period of 10 days and a couple the shop is closed)
it is about 80% and mostly carry wear.  Tight is right.
The cheapest box of ammo he has for it is $30 / 50.
I will post pics when I get it home.

I believe Remington still loads .32 Long. I ordered a box from Sportsman's Guide a few years ago.

I also think that S&B makes the 32 S&W and possibly Fiochhi too.  The 32 S&W is a popular target round in Europe, I believe.

Tell us more about it.  Barrel length?  Nickle or blue? original grips?  I have a nickle one in 38 S&W with a 2" barrel.  (S&W refers to it as a terrier).  It's a really neat little gun.

That could be a really nice find.
Is it an I frame or a transitional I frame?
In case there's a question, I frame uses a leaf spring for the hammer and the transitional uses a coil like a J frame. Look for a strain screw on the lower front edge of the grip frame.
Either way, great find!

I do not know.
The serial number starts with 393XXX.  From what I looked up in the blue book yesterday at the book store it was the second generation of this gun. 
It is Blued square frame, grips look original with a 3" barrel.
Looks like some one put a Model 10 in the dryer and shrunk it like a wool sweater.
I just bought it cause it looked cool. 
Told my buddy about it, and now he wants it for his daughter.
But she is 7, I think way too young to shoot handguns, and it is not PINK and his daughter wants nothing to do with anything that is not PINK.
I did see two different boxes of ammo on the shelf at the shop.  One was Remington, I forget the other.  But I did know the name. 
Neat little gun.  As soon as it is home and gets a bath and cleaned up I will take and post pictures.
Long ago I had a 32 Rim Fire rifle and if the 32 long is anything like the Rim Fire round I will be happy with it.

While the I frame is slightly smaller it not much smaller. In a picture it looks about like a J frame. The main difference is the cylendar and frame is just long enough on the J frame to accept a 38spl. That said I really like the 32long & the 32H&R rounds. If you take those factory 32long lead RN bullets & just flatten the nose on a grinder it makes them much more effective. Or reload wadcutters for defense.   ;D

I have better stuff for self defense.
I bought this as a plinking toy.
The price was right and I have not owned an I frame and thought it would be a neat addition to the log book.
I have a 32 S&W short top break.  the little round makes more of a POP when shot.

My wifes SD gun is a scandium S&W in 32 mag. I load it with 32 longs with flattened tips. She has really bad arthritis & can tolerate almost no recoil. Works for her.

Oh don't get me wrong. 
I am not bad mouthing the round, the guns or the loads.
Heck for a while I carried a little 22 auto.
I guess over time I could think of it as a SD gun but I need to put a lot of ammo though it and feel comfortable knowing I will hit what i want to.

Carry the biggest you can shoot well and conceal. I never had a problem carrying a full size 1911 when I was younger. But age and health issues have forced myself & the wife to rethink our SD guns.

The little J frames can be shot well but it takes practice. Hope you like the I frame.

The .32 has killed a lot of folks---now this was before everybody knew that it wouldn't kill anybody,
I like the .32 for my ladies.
