Will the US be around in ten years? With the likes of the clown, fools in congress and a lazy populace do we have a chance? Hand basket to hell maybe?

depends on who you talk to.  theres alot of wierdos out there that seems to think the world is gonna end in 2012.  I'm really impartial as to which way it goes.  If we keep going the direction we are then I possibly don't think there will be a US, or if there is it will be a crap hole.  If people would smarten up and elect people into congress that will follow what the people want and not there own agenda (if that is even possible?)  then there is a chance.  Honestly I think we should pull all our troops from over seas except for permanent  instillations we have set up, and then begin taxing companies that have a majority of there production overseas to try and pull production back to this country and get more people back into the work force,  there is a LOT of good hard working men and women sitting at home right now because the jobs are not there.

I resemble that remark. In fact I'm at the point of actually hoping it proves true. I'm tired of what's going on these days.

But as a more direct answer to the OP's question it kinda depends on what ya really mean.

Will the land still be here? Yup prolly so.

Will the people still be here? At least some of them will be.

Will the US still be an independent nation? To that I ask are we even now really?

So bottom line I think ten years out this country is gonna look a whole lot different than it does today. I'd not bet money it will still consist of 50 states or that we'll still be pretending it is "we the people" who are electing the folks running the country. In reality I don't think "we the people" are deciding who runs the country now but rather a rich cabal of folks who decide who you can vote for thus limiting your choices to their preselected candidates.

As an example look at who is currently occupying the white house. He was basically totally unheard of prior to being elected as junior senator from Illinois and had only been involved in the corruption that is Chicago until that time and had never held a real job in his life. It's not even clear if he is a US citizen at all much less a natural born one as the US Constitution requires to run for the office of President.

The first time most even heard of him was when he gave a speech at the democratic national convention prior to him running for the office himself. He was then some how magically propelled into the spot light and hailed as a messiah to the point folks began to believe it.

It was a classic example of the rich cabal picking someone from obscurity and setting him up to do their bidding. Even before him tho Bush was working for the same cabal and look what he began that is now culminating in the total loss of freedom in this nation.

I expect the riots from the middle east to spill over to us and when the shooting and looting begin in earnest that puppet sitting at the white house will disband congress for six months and declare martial law using GWB's "patriot act" he rammed thru congress with no one even reading it. That will end free elections in the US and end all freedoms and liberty unless and until the people rise up as they did in 1776 and pen a new Declaration of Independence and succeed in the effort as did our founding fathers. Can such a revolution succeed. Dunno kinda depends a lot of what the military and local cops do I'd think. It will be gut check time for a lot of folks and we'll see how many REALLY believe the words in the US Constitution and who stands and fights for it rather than to abolish it which is the goal of the cabal.

The next ten years will be some real interesting times.

I think we will . I expect we will be different than today . Don't know which way we will go though. Alot of folks are getting older and now understand the liberal ideas are not so good . The health care bill should scare the devil out of anyone over 50. We have a wake up call , will enough wake up ?

I expect hyperinflation within just a year or two. I would expect millions to die from starvation and food wars. With a new reality like that, politics will seem like children's games. Best I would hope for is the country breaking down into local alliances and leadership.

I hope and pray I am wrong.

There is a difference between those that thing it may happen, or possible hope, and the people that basically take a cult following to it, that is the wierdos that I so speak of.  Honestly there will be major difference in ten years,  one can only hope for the best though.  Will we still be a country I'm hoping so,  is there a possibility that it will fall completely to shambles and chaos will reign?  very good chance.

As stated earlier, I believe the land mass will be here.  The nations boundaries may change, and even have a different name.  Being a leader among the nations will be viewed in an entirely different scenario.

Will America still be here 10 years from now?  Yeah, I think so.  It may be relegated to a third world nation at that point with a Government as corrupt as the one in Mexico if we dont get our crap in one sock and start handling our business.

Little too late for all that! We are not the buying power in the world we once were. If we start taxing the companies too much, they will send less here and more to other parts of the world. It's Global now. Thanks to greedy government and corporate moguls, who have sold the American worker down the tube.We are in a nine line bind.........If we bring every troop home and discharge them, and get rid of all Government drones working for the initial factions (IRS, BATF, Dept of Homeland Security, FBI, EPA and the other needless bureaucracy's the unemployment will go through the roof,Retirement , and Social security checks will cease.

The country is like someone living on a credit card, with no way of paying the monthly payment or even the interest on it. Sooner or later it must fail, and that time is here.

We better start learning to eat beans and taters again. "I wonder what it's gonna be like to live without an air conditioner again ;D

There is no magic wand to wave, to bring things back to what we thought was the good life.
It AIN'T coming back anytime soon........If ever.

we've become a country of winers-and I don't me the kind you drink out of a glass. My dad sometimes spoke about the depression-30% unemployment, communist marching in the streets and a socialist president. He told me how he stood in the freezing cold at 5 am in the morning at the ship terminal hoping to get a job that day to unload a ship and then lining up at a construction sight hoping someone would get fired ot killed on the job. Yet the nation survived. We are still the greatest nation on earth. You just have to look at the number of people who want to come to this country.

The 2012 thing, I dont believe in  at all, I have a calander on my wall that ends at the end of this year. Much like the 2000 thing people freaked about. The last place I would look to predict the future is some extinct, lost, sacraficing civilization.

I do believe we are tettering on the edge of something bad, where it leads is more then we can know. Like a roller coaster, hang on tight, its going to be a scary ride. Keep family close!!!

I am not nearly as pessimistic as some of you. Our country like most goes through swings of good and not so good. I am sure people wondered if the US would survive the depression, the 60s, Jimmy Carter presidency to name a few. What concerns me the most is that we do not make this a self-fullfilling prophecy just because of our attitudes. Our history shows that when it gets down to the brass tacks we have enough people that will still grab it by the horns and run with it for the better. 80% or more of us looked at change with fear regardless if the change is for the better or not.

2012, sorry I am very skeptical of a people that couldn't predict there own demise.

Will America still be here in 10 years. Yes becuase it is America. America will stand until the day the good Lord says the world is done. Simple as that.

Will we like everything happening in the next 10 years, I think the answer is a big NO.

The 2012 Mayan prophecy is bogus.  Here is a repost of the best explanation I've found for its disapproval:

Quote
Actually they didn't. There is _no_ mayan prophecy for the end of the Baktun. None whatsoever. On the contrary, on their monuments you find dates up to trillions of year into the future. Dunno what was supposed to happen then, but it would make no sense to prophecise it if the world is supposed to end now.

_All_ that happens in 2012 (ok, 2013) is the end of a baktun.

Let's start from the start. The Mayans didn't count in base 10, but in base 20, presumably because they could count on their toes too. (No, really, look at their digits.) Thank goodness they didn't come up with a male-only maths, eh?

So they started with a year based on 260 day years, the so called Tzolkin calendar. If now you went "wait, that can't be right, it would skip through the actual year like crazy", congrats, you'd be smarter than the Mayans.

Then came the Long Count calendar, which was 360 days long, or 18 months of 20 days each. (Told you they were big on 20.) This is actually the calendar used in the 2012 (non)prophecy.

Yes, that's right. Those poor idiots are actually trusting a civilization to tell them about galactic alignments... who isn't even advanced enough to figure out the length of the year. Nor had the smarts to reset it to some equinoxe or such each year, like the lunisolar calendars used around here by even the most primitive ancient cultures. Yeah, that's the guy to trust with galactic calculations, right? ;)

To make it more stupid, even the Mayans eventually got a better calendar than that, the Haab calendar. Which finally padded the year to 365 days long, putting them finally on par with what the Egyptians had had, oh, only a couple of millennia before them. But anyway, a doomsday calculation based on the Long Count is already based on a calendar which is obsolete and crap even by Mayan standards.

So, anyway, a Long Count year was 18 months of 20 days each.

From there it went kinda like for us with decades, centuries and milenia, except in base 20.

So for us a decade is 10 years, for them a katun is 20 years.

For us a century is 10x10 years, for them a baktun is 20x20 years.

For us a millennium is 10x10x10 years, for them a piktun is 20x20x20 years.

All that happens in 2012 or 2013 is the end of a baktun. Yes, it's not even millennialism. The piktun (base-20 millenium) won't end for another 4000 years or so.

That scare isn't even like Y2K, it's more like being scared of the rollover from 699 AD to 700 AD. I mean, what in the world, it's not even running out of digits or anything.

And again that's _all_ there is to it, because there is no actual Mayan prophecy for that date.

But I guess that won't stop the doomsday idiots from waiting for their Rapture on that day. What else is new?

That aside, the US will still be here in 10 years.  Things might be worse.  We might have a new AWB.  We may have a worse economy.  Lots of stuff.  We're no where near collapse though.  If we're spiraling towards collapse (debatable, but lets assume) I'd put an absolute minimum time of 50 years out before that could happen.
