and i'm glad to know that sumthins happnin....
no email, no phone call.... jus a bank statement find !!! oh-well i'm glad

total was $144 sumthin. barrel, fitting, ship charge... an whateva else.
dont care... now ta figure out when to make shur tha ol'lady is at home to sign.
prolly outta 3 attemps ta deliver, she mite be there for tha third one

thank i'll hawg tie'er to tha front porch..... naw !!!! then i'll havta feel tha rath of tha voo-doo stick pins for revenge

. thank i better early out that day... if i only knew what day !!!

Very nice John. Should be fun.

I have a 16.5, a 22 and a 32 incher. The action and the 16.5 are out to a gunsmith friend along with some wood. He's gonna fit a butt and two forearms. I want a schnabel for the 32 and maybe the 22, and a spinter for the shorty.

You gonna make a shorty outta that barrel when you get it?

I got one about 3/8" shorter and it is a fun gun to shoot. Short barrel 45/70, red dot or peep sight and dem pigs in your swamp better keep their heads down.

Most know, but for those who dont; the H&R 'youth' size shotgun forestocks fit right up and have that smaller, shorter 'splinter' look, goes good with short barrels to my eye.

Doc, you arent much longer than that 45-70 revolver!
What powder/bullet combination do you figure will burn best in that snub-nosed 'rifle'?

I've got a .45-70 and she makes meat. I'd like to try a hog with the .445. I'm thinking it would be a nice caliber for a 2 - 400 lb pig. I killed enough of them when I was young and stupid with a lot less. I was quicker on my slippers then too. I haven't shot a hog in 30 years, and I miss it. If anyone wants to crate up a few and send them, it would be appreciated.

I hear ya Pete. Only hogs I shot was with a 22 mag. to butcher. Been chased out of a few pens though and was wishin I had a firearm in my hands, a big un, too! With some hard cast flat nosed .431's I bet you could make bacon of any size, Pete. DP

i am going to start typing all my paw-paw's posts and replies. there are some
people on here that gets upset about the way he types. if only they knew him and
could really understand our heritage, they still would probably complain.

so, we will start with a 300gr rem sjhp on top of imr-4227 powder. we have great luck with that combo in our other 45/70 short barrel guns. we also have some nice 405gr cast that we obtained from jeff. and will try various powders until we find what works best for velocities
around 1300fps.

i have been doing it for several years from time to time.
that is why some people say that he can talk, spell, and type correct. and it is only a niche
the way he types. wrong !!!
i enjoy him looking over my shoulder to check and see if i am spelling things right

you should see how many things i do not type

Does that new shorty 45-70 have your name on it? If that Talo barrel isn't yours I would ask him about gettin' that plastic card out again.

paw-paw and my dad made me a 17" 4 years ago when i was 10. they cut/crowned
and dove tailed for high front sight to use with a ghost ring peep. its my favorite !!!
another could never take its place, or take the whitetail thats fallen in such a short time.
we have a 18" #1 tropical that looks like a dream. but it is not as accurate as my handi.

i think he is going to put a time frame for when he gets to type. something like 12:01am
to 11:59pm. or just tell the concerned to check the ignore box

he is a nut, but i would not want it any other way.

Keep John posting I enjoy the change of pace! If you read a book and the author wrote it like it is in the south or anywhere else for that matter do you complain to the author? No it makes for a better book..... Keep posting life as you know it. I enjoy it- thejanitor

I am interested to know if these 18-3/4 45-70 barrels have rear dovetail sights like the 45 LC Buff carbines or something else? Someone please educate me. If so, I must have one for my special build I am planning.

The only modern H&R centerfire barrels that have dovetails are the 45-70 and 45 Colt Buffalo Classics and the 38-55 Target classic, all the rest have screw mounted sights including all 3 of the Talo Trappers, and like all modern centerfire rifle barrels, they too are drilled and tapped for a scope base.
