I would jump on a Redhawk and/or a Bisley in 480. I am afraid my tastes in handgun aesthetics is quite conservative and traditional. The Super Redhawk is to me the ugliest revolver in existence IMHO

Can't argue with anything said about the 480 so far. Just posting to add there is so little difference between it and the 475L it isn't worth worrying about. Not a lot of production choices their either though.

Oh I have seen some ugly guns.. But looks are not everything, the guns work well.

I too think the 480 is grossly over looked and under rated.
I fall into the category of guys that wanted the 475 because of the awesome potential.
I got one in the form of a 5.5" BFR from Magnum Research (which was unshootable until I had the grip frame modified by Gary Reeder.)
The parent cartridge is waaaay over powered for American game and after about 100 rds I was flinching so bad I was forced to dial it back to what I found easy to manage.
That happened to be around 44 mag power with a much bigger hole. Hmmm
Once I was doin that I took a closer look at the 480 and quickly decided that Ruger had merely mismanaged the issue. They actually made a few 5-shot guns but just as they were coming out they dropped the whole project and now act as if there never was a 480. (That's Ruger for ya!?!)
My pet load is a 375 WFN-GC at a little under 1100 fps. Makes a big hole, more accurate than I am and very manageable. What's not to like?!?
I sure hope Ruger comes to their senses and reinvent the 5-shot version.
BTW, SAAMI specs both the 480 and the 475 at the same pressure. Hmmm
I'm still trying to make sense of that!

The .480 sounds like a winner and the .41 is great also. But I can do everything I need to with my .44 magnum.

The .480 Ruger is an outstanding cartridge. It's a darn shame that more people didn't / don't recognize that. Even Ruger failed to recognize its potential by refusing to put it in a proper single action revolver.

I'd settle for one in a SRH which are getting tuff to find in what I consider decent condition. The specimens I've seen lately look like their ruger scope rings were wrenched on and even w/that, they're asking a ransom.

Supposedly put up for consignment by an older gent that only drove it to church on Sunday. Tight, minty and never mounted w/scope.

Me be happy as the pipeline is rapidly drying up on this'un.

I've an eye open for another ~ my missus may have an eye open for a divorce atty

What w/being a tired logistician, having an unpopular handgun caliber I find myself looking to lay in spare consumables, Brass in this case. Seen some affordable Speer brass in 480 Ruger at Grafs and wonder if anyone has had experience w/that particular make in 480? Good/bad? So/so? Hate to procure a bunch and find that they may not endure many reloads.

If I did not have a world of Hornady brass, I would just call up Starline and put in an order.

I would then wait for the starline brass

@ $32.95 per hnrd? Hard to pass up on a lifetime buy at that price ~ As an aside, The single 480 starline review at Midway prompted this reqst as the reviewer reported only 2X reloads before case splitting occurred.

Hornady does sound better of course would have to buy less at their prices

The Starline seems better to me than the Hornady..I didn't split any, nor did my son. The Hornady seemed softer. JMO..

IIRC, the 480 was Hornadys concept/brainchild and as such, one would think their quality would be at a high level. Perhaps I'll try some of each ~

The Ruger 480 in a Super Redhawk has always intrigued me. If I could find one to buy, I am sure I would do so. I only have issues with one caliber and that is the .454.

I find this caliber a caliber from hell. I am not even close to being sensitive in the recoil department, but this round hurt my shooting glove! I hunt with a Ruger GP-100 6" (.357),

a S&W 629 (.44):

and a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .45 Colt.:

One that has been coming into the woods with me lately is my New Model Blackhawk in .44 spl.:

I have never had any problem with Hornady brass... in the 480R or the 450M.

That said if I did not have so much 480R Hornady brass I would buy starline brass... it is all they do.

I started my 45 colt on starline

Another fan of the .480Ruger. Mine is a T/C Encore Pro-Hunter with a 12" barrel. I really want to get one in a wheel gun one day and love the idea of a Ruger Blackhawk .480!

I shot the 480 Ruger for the first time this weekend. A club brother had a SRH chambered in it. Even with my limited big bore handgun experience the first thing I said after I shot it was "that ain't bad!"

Not much more then my Bisley Hunter in 44 Mag.
